If it's wet, watch out for the oil on the road - I'll nearly slid into a policeman in Crawley when PvT suddenly turned off the road

[quote="Ben"]Next sunday the 6th, is the vintage car rally to Brighton. I'll be at CSS at 8.30am. Same as last year, year before that etc, drafting the cars on the way down. More the merrier. If this could appear in the rides section, i would be greatful, thanks.

Hi Ben - just do it - ride section is an open forum.

Well done Ben, I was just thinking about posting something on this but you beat me to it.

If anyone hasn't done this before, it is a flatter route to the coast than usual, as the cars can't make it over Ditchling Beacon. If the weather's dull it might be getting a bit dark by the time we get back, so it's worth bringing lights for the last few miles.

I'm only just shifting the tail end of this bloody sore throat so won't be able to make it, shame as it's great fun but breathing behind some of the old motors won't do it any good. I'll just have an easy spin with Del's run instead.

Not quite sure if it was a veteran car rally, or a meeting of the Barbour jacket owners club.

I swear one of the drivers was polishing their car after it had broken down just after Merstham

Had a nice tailwind assisted ride down to Brighton with Mike. Have to pick, the right one's to draft behind, given the range of speeds and emissions. First time i've seen a lady driver of one of the cars, not sure who would have parked it on marina drive. Had a quick chat with Marcus, who was down on the sea front with family. Then back home over devil's dyke. Bit of a headwind on the way back but luckily the lanes are pretty sheltered. There's a chance we saw said car on the merstham drag being loaded onto a trailer. I think he'd given up polishing by that time. He's probably thinking of upgrading to a new model, may be a 1902 Renault.

Weather not looking too promising at the moment. Fingers crossed but any dampness on the roads or forecast to fall in the morning and I'll be doing something else, too much oil etc on the road from these old knackers to risk it when moist.
