I can't see any evidence of name-calling Amy ..... "Dombo" is what he wants people to call him.

And there's only one person who appears to be confused concerning who said what, despite the fact that the answer is absolutely crystal clear.

Why lock the thread. Its been the most intersting one for ages even if you cant discuss politics (unless its a left wing view)

Whatever, it's all got rather spiteful, rather than an exchange of views...

[quote="marco"]Dombo do you want this locked? I'm quite happy to do it if you want.

Why? You know me, I love a bit of banter, name calling and general playground childishness. But thanks for asking anyway.

And I've ridden with Bo-Gilly, Grahame, and yourself so know you all to be top blokes.

Doubt you think the same about me, but hey ho.

I think Marco might have seen Dombo's earlier suggestion of "I expect Marco will lock this before long" as more of a plea by him to be saved from the hole which he had dug himself into. Which to be fair, is how I saw it.

And to be honest I don't really see this thread as 'discussing politics', I see it more as discussing how best the government can save some money. Although someone did throw in a comment about "left wing activists" a while back, but I'm not sure how that was relevant to the discussion.

[quote="marco"]I think we as a club need to do our bit to help with the economic situation.
What with all this talk of RBS and other's bonuses in the news lately will anyone second a proposal for the AGM that city bankers club subs for the year are £100 rather than £25? We could then use this money to send it to bike clubs in less well off countries like Wales

Or France/Norwood

Listen mate, whatever disagreement I might have with someone concerning politics/the state of the nation/religion/whatever, it has no effect on what I think of them as a person.

To give you an example ........ I regularly ride with someone who rants endlessly that the economic situation is not the fault of the global crises but all the fault of over-spending by the last Labour government (he's a Liberal Democrat - which is a fancy term for "Tory"). Now nothing could be more at odds with my own views, but I like the guy anyway, and we get on fine and chat as we ride. So there's no problem there for either of us.

The irony is I have recently discovered that despite his Daily Mail fuelled opinions, he's actually been receiving incapacity benefit since 1996, got a council flat, and has had most of the rent and council tax paid for by the state for the last 15 years (during the entire time of Labour being in government) . All the while, sailing around the world in his yacht, when he wasn't living in his French Normandy farmhouse.

And the moral of this story ? .......don't ever trust a Daily Mail reader :D

Was his opinion Daily Mail fuelled or from personal experience as he sounds like a perfect example.

Think how the Germans feel about the Greeks. Apparently there are more Porsche Cayennes registered in Greece than there are people that are registered as earning more than 50,000 Euros a year. Now on one side that is good for the Germans as they are getting a lot of business for their Car Manufacturing, but when the crunch comes, it is gonna cost them a lot if they decide to bail them out with the EFSF.

I also heard another story that the Greeks were concerned about the lack of tax revenue they were collecting so were in the process of setting up a new office specifically designed to increase tax revenues. But guess what, when the austerity measures came to the fore, the first department to get cut from the list for future funding, yep you guessed it, the tax collectors.

So, morale is, we may think we have it bad, but there are a lot of other places that have it a lot worse.

Italy is not looking too good, bond yields up over 7% yesterday, wonder whether I'll be able to get a discount on that Ferrari I have my eye on in a few months.

Cheers

Marek.....
