Dealextreme mj808 problems

Postby Marcus » Mon Nov 28, 2011 5:08 pm

I haven't used them since last winter and charged the batteries plugged the light in, green battery indicator light comes on but the light will not, no amount of clicking of the switch turns it on.

If I unplug the battery then plug it back in, the light will come on or flash, depending which mode randomly is chosen, but it will not turn off or change mode.

Anyone else experience this problem or have any suggestions :?:

Thanks

I think I have owned it for over a year, so it is likely to be outside the warranty period.

Sad news Marcus.

i can't help i'm afraid but I've just taken delivery of a similar light from a uk stockist if you're looking for a replacement (you'll need a whole set as bits aren't interchangeable with your current kit):

Quality seems very good and i've heard very good things regarding the customer service. £67 (free delivery) gets you the light, battery, O rings for bar mount, head strap for helmet mount and a UK charger.

Mine was delivered 2 days after ordering.

I agree with some things but I think a lot of lights are made in the far east anyway so you pay a certain price for the brand. Personally, i'd never spend nearly £300 on a light when technology moves so fast.

Not sure what I'll get next if anything. I only used it for night Mtb rides and can't see myself doing too much this winter. Also it still works by plugging it in and out.

Would also find it difficult to spend £300 on lights, but it doesn't mean I wouldn't.

I was thinking of getting one of these Magicshine 808's - I never go off road though and probably not much use on unlit roads , do you think these are overkill for commuting in S London ? The uk site mentions the improved battery packs ( from Germany ), that have longer run times and much improved water proofing.. I don't really need one I guess though I'm often impressed by some of the lights I see on other bikes coming towards me - plus it would be a nice Xmas bike gift for myself :)

Brian I think that they're a good buy for on or off road use. I got one from the UK site I listed which are very similar to the magic shine ones but with the bonus of being from a UK supplier if things go wrong.
The lamps have 3 settings and I find the the medium setting is sufficient for the road and the high is good for riding off road - if a little bit like a spot light.

If you were to only use it on the medium setting, you'd get longer battery life. If you wanted to see one in the flesh before you buy, give me a shout and you can use mine for an evening and see what you think.

Hi Dan, the one I was looking at was on the UK Magicshine site , they had the improved German batt pack , and slightly updated emitter - think the model code is 808 e . Think they came out at round about £105 as the improved batt pack is £16 extra... I saw an improved lens for them as well on Ebay to give more of a flood / less spot light.. thanks for your kind offer - I might just take the plunge and get one though !

I bought the following 1200 lum light a few weeks ago for £32. Very impressed so far
