Tech question

I`m about to upgrade my old Roberts, which I`ve been using for commuting and training on the turbo.
I`ve found some old 9speed Durace which looks pretty good in the garage but also found an Ultegra 10speed front mech. The question is will the 10speed front mech run with a 9speed chain, etc.

Yes, the front mech isn't very technical just a metal plate that shoves the chain over. There's no indexing or anything fancy.

The Shimano front mechs apparently have "a different profile to the 9 speed ones", but I suspect that is just finest freshly squeezed extra virgin python oil, and it'll work just fine.

the front mech just derails the chain onto either the big 'un or the little 'un- bottom pull, side pull, top pull what ever pull- I've used 8 speed, 9 and 10- just set up the limit screws properly and the jobs a good 'un!

I had an E-type - it didn't work very well! Luckily I was able to replace it with a newer conventional mech that fitted lower on the seat tube

Seems they have direct-mount as well now
