On it? Cav WON the Sports Personality of the Year (to add to his Sports Writers Association win). Great! Especially so since there were some other dominant sporting Brits, in sports generally more televised than cycling. (Shame no women were nominated though).

Fantastic to see Cav win. Can't believe he's the first road cyclist to win since Tommy Simpson (although Beryl Burton came second in 1967).

When the Daily Mail comes out in favour of a Lycra Lout you know the sport is going mainstream.

When Tommy Simpson became world champ this beer mug was produced to celebrate. As you can see it's not exactly top quality and I'm very pleased to have it. There was also an ashtray made. Both are hard to come by, I've been searching for the ashtray for years. I wonder what Cav's fans will put out there by way of celebration? Hope you don't mind me sharing this - just thought it a good example of how times have changed between the two winners.

Proud to say I knew Tom personally, Once went tobogganning with him in the Alps near Nice in a break from an early-season training camp there. :D

Agree Ant. He probably did have something prepared but when it was announced and he went up he just forgot. I liked the "I'm going to shut up now because I'm just rambling".
