Sportive Training 2. ToSH 15/4/06 Anyone?

After a month of weekends spent racing I think its time for the first Tour of the Surrey Hills of the season.

I've had lots of requests as to when this one is going to happen, so does anyone fancy it on Easter Saturday 15th April? (Day after Good Friday at Hearne Hill - so don't get drunk!). Obviously this is pending good weather. If weather is bad - normal club run, then we'll do ToSH as soon after as is possible.

Doing it saturday means we can all spend sunday with family/friends etc and even recover in time for another ride on bank holiday monday.

New Members - Tour of the Surrey Hllls is an ACC regular ride which previews an official Audax event taking place in August of every year.
Total return distance from Croydon to Croydon is 104miles and features roughly 3,000 metres of climbing. IT'S HARD!

For anyone doing a Sportive this year, this ride will give you a realistic appraisal of what's going to be involved.

We've had 30 riders out on this in the past so lets see if the current membership can top that.

I'm around and would definitely like to do this. Huw - It would be good to get an early start, as I guess that this will be a 7 hour ride.

We start at 9.15 go with the regular club run as far as reigate Heath then head straight on, joining the ToSH course at Dorking.

That way people can decide on the day if they're coming or not due to weather, changed plans etc

Brief lunch stop at Shere should see us back in Croydon by 3.30 - 4.00

I would be up for this one but will have to see how things are on the home front before I can commit myself.

Also bear in mind that you could return from Shere and cut off about a third of the ride (missing out the hardest climb, the 21%er at Winterfold)

It is a good ride and there will probably be a few groups of varying speed with people dropping out at various points which you can tag along with.

I hope to make it if the other half doesn't force me to go and visit my relations!

might be able to join you for this one, depends onif my bike is ready, otherwise is it possible on a fixed, I seem to remember some steep hills and fast descents.

You could do it on a fixed if you are super man, else you will be walking for a fair amount of the ride.

Huw, I will ride up from EG that day and join you, don't think there is much on the racing front that weekend and could do with getting in a distance ride or two before we head over to your homeland.

Kieran - I wouldn't reccomend fixed - the gear you'd need to get up Winterfold and Tanhurst would mean you'd be spinning out on even the most modest downhills and there are lots of long, steep downhills as well as steep climbs.

Marek - Might be easier for you if you joined us at Reigate Common to save you the time and effort of riding to Charlwood then back out again. I'll let you know what time we'll be there closer to the day but I reckon about 9.40

Peter - Of course it'll be good weather, it's always good weather on that ride
