Happiness is...

coming home just as it's dark and finding the bats are out flitting around the flats' garden :D

Should be out again tonight - it's lovely watching them zoom around and amazing to think they hang out in Hackbridge.

Keep your windows closed Amy, don't want you turning up for the club run looking pale with a couple of holes on your neck.

True. Must re-read Dracula again soon, an excellent book.

Unfortunately FCC scuppered any expectations of bat watching - trains were seriously up the creek last night and I ended up going round the long way before being kicked out at Sutton...

And I thought I was lucky as I'd just had my hair cut and would've missed the train I was aiming for by a minute...

I was going to mention Captain Beaky and his crew

I am Legend by Richard Matheson, another fine example of the vampire genre, if a little short:
Inspired the film of the same name starring Will Smith, The Omega Man with Charlton Heston (arguably the only actor to have played Moses, John the Baptist, God and the US President), and the granddaddy of all zombie films Night of the Living Dead.

Not particulalry a fan of the genre per se Dom, just had a spell of catching up on some classics a while ago. Dracula isn't a long book either, a lot of older classics are pretty short (Sherlock Holmes, 39 Steps etc) but that's what makes them so good to me. Tightly packed and not a lot of padding which so many books have these days.

If you ever come to Australia, up here in Queensland we have huge, and sometimes i really mean huge! Fruit bats.
They are pretty spectacular when in a group flying over you.
They hang in the bloody palm trees in the garden and scare the beejeezuz out of you when they suddenly fly off!!

My hairdresser seemed to think we had fruitbats in this country

Talking of huge, I do like those giant rats they find in remote areas of jungle - not seen human beings before so have no fear of being picked up by the likes of Ben Fogle or Steven Backshall ( 8) ) So cute :D
