Sexism in cycling II

Well, in Cycle Surgery, Moorgate, anyway.

Bought a pair of Pearl Izumi shorts in the sale last week and I was asked if I had used such shorts before

I need to buy something - a track pump might've been good - just to see if they a) disregard that I actually handed it to the assistant at the till or b) ask if I've used such a thing before. I want to know if the Cycle Surgery staff make the same assumptions regarding men in suits or do they just accept it

Well unlike your unfortunate incident involving the chain tool, I'm sure that the staff at Cycle Surgery are aware that ladies, not just men, use cycling shorts. I suspect they thought you might be new to cycling and were trying to helpful. Somewhere like Cycle Surgery is far more likely to have beginners entering through their doors than Butler's. I wouldn't worry about it

Moving back off topic that lady's saddle is too high.

Was delighted to see a courier with front disc covers nearly get tipped on his backside with the cross wind on London Bridge the other day, failing to grasp the basic physics of front discs and stability and the (in)ability to contol his bike having cut the bars so short the steering has the sensitivity and control of using a rudder. He just managed to stay upright but not without some wild swerving across the road in front of a bus...shame the bus missed him.
