Hi all, just a word to say i've had successful knee surgery 40 days ago on my ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.
The knee surgeons in Lyon are world class and mine did a good job, with tiny scars, limited swelling and none of the pains i had read about.
I started to walk the day after the op, but progress is very slow and i am still not walking properly, as i am having trouble getting the full extension in movement, so have to work on this all the time. And range of leg movement is still pretty limited which means pain if i don't stay within that.
I also have to be careful all the time, the other day while visiting my surgeon i tripped my foot on a fixed seat and over-extended my hamstring (where the graft was taken) which was badly painful for a few days and feels like it's set me back a couple weeks in terms of progress.
Am doing doing a little indoor bike as part of the rehab, though have not got quite enough flexion yet so had to raise my saddle by 2cm.
The timeline for after this operation is pretty standard and i should be allowed to ride gently outside and jog a bit around mid-June (no clipless pedals or mountain biking for another 3 months after that ..), and back to full strength by September, but will have to be careful between 2 and 4 months, when the graft transforms from a tendon to a ligament and is at its weakest.
Hope to come and watch or help at some of the forthcoming races (unless it upsets me too much). Thanks for the messages and sorry if i replied very briefly (or not at all yet).
