SCCU 25 22/4/10

A few ACC out this morning for the SCCU 25 trying to get our legs to work and get used to racing again.

Nice sunny morning and seemed nice and calm at the HQ, was a bit breezier out on the course though.

I didn't feel like I was going as well as I wanted to be, in part as I've fitted new bars to my TT bike (narrower pads to try and get more aero) and they're fitted a bit lower than my previous ones. Was quite uncomfortable so have raised them up a bit this afternoon to hope that helps as otherwise if I still find it iffy in the IOW than I'll put the old ones back on as I need to be comfortable, certainly for 50s and 100s.

The start was okay but then I felt the breeze in my face and it started to feel like hard work. It was one of those races where I wasn't sure if there was any wind or whether it was just in my head trying to come up with a reason for the slower speed.

Tried to push on for the final 10 miles and was overtaken by Rupert Burbidge between Hop Oast and Southwater travelling like a train! Over the line and glad to be done.

Looking at the results board and most people seemed to be a bit slower than normal so maybe there was a bit of wind out there, or maybe just early season and everyone else trying to get their legs going as well :) .

Addiscombe results:
Neil Barnes 1.14.16
Robert Royle-Evatt 1.06.33
Carl Ferri 57.16 (storming ride :D )
Phil Hawkes 1.07.23
George Brent 57.01 (always good to do some last minute position changes :D )
Andrew Green 1.03.46
Mark McLaughlin 1.02.09
Paul Tunnell DNS but swung by HQ to wish us well, had been given a late start and would have been too tight for time to get to his race commissionaire job at Bletchingley

Winner was Marin Williamson of London Dynamo in 52.32, Rupert did a 54.04 for second.

Nice morning for it bit chilly but the sun was out which was a a bonus. Weird race for me did a long 56 last July in foul conditions so went into it thinking i should be able to get a course pb but it wasn't to be, even felt faster than last year but i was about 30 secs down i think
Well done to everyone especially 2nd claimer Neil Barnes breaking his 25 duck

A Late and sunny start for me but the wind was getting stronger…. felt good today probably helped by sat’s leg stretcher.

Some good fast stretches and only a few encounters on the roundabouts with traffic, I guess the downside for my 8.42 start! Tried to remember to keep a good high cadence especially on the drags, held off the winner till the southwater turn, then he put another 2 mins into me in 4 miles!!

Final run in didn’t have the usual headwind for a change, and reasonably pleased with time - that’s my first 25 since 2010?
Hoping we all get a good morning for next week’s ACC event?

Felt terrible - probably down to trying out a new caffeine drink before the off. To be fair, my new best pal and coach, Graeme, did mention that you don't really need all these fancy sports drinks.

Still having some trouble holding the position but it's improving. Just need to get used to taking the weight on my elbows for long periods.

There was a slight breeze which made the drag up to the Hop Oast roundabout (after the Farthings Hill interchange) even less fun than usual. Apart from that a perfect day.

Don’t worry Phil, it’s all about fine-tuning, just ask George!

Just seen result’s George 6th and Charl 7th overall, well done chaps did the business.

With the added bonus that you didn't have to do any running or swimming ;-)

Top bombing guys and congrats to Yog and carl.
As for this coming sundays 25........ I reckon its gonna be a mudguard job, plus an aero cape. Its far too cold out there for me!
Looking forward tho to joining in the fun in the very near future.
Keep on plugging on Phil, it does take time to get used to the bike and you'll always have your allen keys out for sure.

Ah yes, strict observance of Rule #42- a ride should never be preceded by a swim nor followed by a run.

or in my case a run before the ride followed by another run for good measure, i can't swim very well hence duathlons not triathlons!

My 25 duck broken....along with my back. Did the whole thing sat up virtually due to my position being totally wrong (new saddle blah blah blah).

It's sorted now but sadly, I'm not. Injured damn damn....
