I think the use of the word "artist" is stretching it a bit, that is a terrible effort regardless of your favoured style.

Must be something about the area. There's a giant cock on the road a couple of miles down the road on the Dorking roundabout...

I rode up Box Hill today and it was awesome, that new tarmac is something special. On the way back home though came across a group of workers putting down some new road surface on the South Nutfield road race circuit. The usual stuff, a sticky bichemen with a layer of gravel laid over top. I had a chat with the guy holding the red stop sign and asked him why they kept putting down such a ropey surface and asked him if he'd been up to Box Hill lately as they could learn some lessons from the new Tarmac. He indicated that it was basically very cheap to lay down the stones. I did point out that this was a useless surface and that it did not actually get rid of any of the holes. He said that they have a team that fills in the holes first and then they put the stones etc down. I pointed to a few holes that had just been stoned over and he shrugged his shoulders and said that was someone else's job.

So, our councils are going out and basically wasting our money on very poor new road surfaces which actually have no purpose other than using up the councils supply of loose gravel. Absolutely nuts.

Cheers

Marek....
