ECCA 50

Postby Andrew G » Sat May 19, 2012 8:18 pm

George and I off to the E2 this afternoon for a 50. A nice drive up having company and a good natter.

I don't like the course as it's a bit of a motorway at this time of day but wanted to ride the roads in prep for the 12. A bit chillier than expected but still warm enough for just the skinsuit without armwarmers once racing, bit of a breeze but not too bad.

Set off and was going okay and checked my watch at 25 miles and had 1.02 so on for a decent ride. Pushed on the second 25 although the last 5 miles in to the wind was tough.

Result was 2.03.05 and a new PB by 25 seconds. Happy lad and looks likes some form is arriving.

George...well the boy did good, he did very very good with an absolutely blinding ride. His story to tell, it's a good one.

Was weird weather today a bit breezy but warmish looked like it was gonna rain with heavy overcast weather but the wind didn't seen to affect the riding.
As soon as I set off I know I was feeling good and just had to keep the average speed above 27mph to have a chance at the club record which is 1.51.24.

Was absolutely flying along up towards the Red Lodge which was around half way round this out and back course. By my reckoning this leg should have been the toughest but the breeze didn't seem to change the speed :D

Through the 25 mile mark at around 53ish minutes so just had to keep it the same on the way back. had a gel and a few slurps of drink and I was ready for the return leg. This was very quick too and there were times when I was bowling along at 30+mph for some quite considerable lengths of time.

10 miles to go and I the clock said 1.25 which was nice 8)

Round the final turn at forwentways and into a bit more of a headwind for the final 5 miles.

Crossed the line in 1.47.17, I couldn't quite believe it but had managed to exceed my wildest dreams, really didn't expect to go that quick

Knocked over 4 minds off the club record and 5 mins off my PB :D Happy Days :D :D

Awesome stuff!
Shame there wasn't a third team member to get the club team record.

Not as much as they should have done Mr. Gadget :) . But yes they did hurt a bit as I pushed hard at the end in to the headwind to get the PB. Could have gone a bit quicker at the start but the road was a bit mad and wasn't focussing just on the race.
