SCCU G50/53 TT 24th June

Down to Broadbridge Heath HQ for this one - wet and windy morning although conditions were not as bad as I anticapated. Only 36/37 finished for this one out of a field of 102 entrants. Lucy, Robert R-E and I for ACC in this one.

Times :

Lucy A-P : 02:24:42 (inc LS of few mins)
Robert R-E : 02:13:27
Mo : 02:07:31

Really good rides by Robert & Lucy :) Today, not sure what happened - my legs were not completely there (and I realised this in first 5 mins). Well pleased though with my result which is only 35 secs off previous debut 50. Also, got a -ve split ( 1.05, 1:02:30) which was good. HR average (172bpm) was also lower than last 50's 175bpm.

Came around 16/17th out of the 36/37 that completed, so fairly pleased with that. Hope to get sub 2:05 soon.

Well done folks, a sub 2.05 will be there as soon as you do a 50 in some normal conditions Mo.

I was down to ride but like Rob was off for a very early start. I'd packed the fixed with mudguards after seeing the forecast, was just thinking of unpacking it when the sky fell in. Weather was grim on the way down and a bit of surface water but with the torrential rain that fell at 5.45 (until 6.30) I decided to DNS. I don't mind racing in the rain but when it's very heavy it's tricky to see through the specs properly.

Stuck around and did the results board as they were short of hands. Conditions improved for later riders with the rain easing but the wind picked up.

The amazing Steve Dennis won with a long 1.48 just over 5 minutes clear of Rob Pelham in second (unfortunately Nick Dwyer and Rupert Burbidge had mechanicals - puncture and broken tri bar). He also swept up the vets std comp.

It certainly felt like deja vu with conditions like the ACC 25, and lots of DNS's at Broadbridge Heath this morning! I was determined to ride, probably because I'm mad  but also because I'd had a rubbish ride at the SCCU 50 last year and wanted to improve my course pb of 02:27:27.

Not sure how I managed to miss my start time, really stupid but I'd got my numbers mixed up ... and had got confused when no.60 had gone off wearing no.70. Kicking myself hard I went off to do battle with the wind and rain, and take it very easy round the numerous roundabouts on this course!

My ride went ok all things considered, it certainly felt better than my last 50 ... although I think I could have been more focused and paced better.

Official time on the clock 02:24:42 My time on my Garmin 02:22:46, so happy I beat my time from last year :D 2nd lady (ok so only 2 ladies rode, but you've got to be in it to win it!!!) 1st lady Helen Bullimore In-Gear :D

Well done to all those who rode, and big thanks to the time keepers and marshals.

Use Tulas Ian so good bars. He has raised the pads to suit his position but as Use don't make spacers, and the rock n roll clamping setup only uses one bolt, the diy spacer and longer bolt put a bit of extra stress. I expect it's fine normally but he said he hit a pothole and the jolt must have put sideways force in that the longer bolt couldn't take. It was the bolt that snapped rather than the bars.
