Marshalling help request - Beastway 18th July (Last Chance?)

Postby Grahame » Sun Jun 24, 2012 11:47 am

Dear clubmates,

We are the promoting club for the last competitive round of this year's Beastway Mountainbike racing series. We need to provide 6 marshals for the evening.

The series takes place atRedbridge Cycling Centre (AKA Hog Hill). The nearest tube station is Fairlop, and if you call me when you are a couple of stops away from there, I'll be able to collect you from there.

Racing starts at 7:30pm, so we'd like you to be there by 7pm to arrange marshalling spots. The race finishes at 8:30pm, and your help to dismantle the course afterwards would be greatly appreciated. You'll then be invited to the pub by the organisors.

So, who's up for fulfilling their marshalling commitment to the club whilst watching people charge round and round a hilly field, falling off their bikes and giggling a lot?

Cheers,

Grahame

Put my name down for this - sounds like fun and I need to get out more.

Just might need help getting back home... though I shouldn't have to worry about getting up the next morning 8)

Further news:

John, Bill, Sarah, Andrea, Ray and I announced to the racers at last night's Beastway round that we will be taking at least a one year break from organising the series next year. So, unless somebody else comes forward to take over the organisation, this might well be your last chance to marshal and witness a competitive Beastway race.

We need 5 more marshalls. Remember, your club expects you to marshal at least one event each year (two if you race). Please put something back into the sport that gives you so much enjoyment and pleasure.

The TVs were working last night, and they have satellite Eurosport, so the tour should be on the tellies in the clubhouse.

well last year's was fun to watch so I should be up for this - just got to check the diary at home. Must remember to bring more warm clothes as it was pretty exposed on the hill last year with a cold wind blowing.

I'll be able to provide a shuttle-run to the nearest tube station (Fairlop), if that helps?

On the bad-news side - Sebastian's festival of running and jumping (and riding bikes up Box Hill) have taken over the site for cycling teams to use as a training base, so we are locked out of almost all of the HQ building. No teams have booked to use it (it's on the opposite side of London to Box Hill, D'Oh), but us plebs are not allowed to use the facilities. Perhaps the authorities are scared that we may step on a used needle?

Anyway, all this means no TVs. I'm assured the WiFi will be working, so I'll bring my laptop and we can catch up on the days news and watch the Eurosport summary video.

Thank you very much to all those who braved a muddy Beastway field to help marshal the last ever (possibly) individual Beastway race.

Could you each send me a pm, so I can arrange with Phil the Coffers to get the "contribution to expenses for marshals" sent on to you.

Cheers,

Grahame

No! You can't have M&Ms. Only Cadburys chocolate is allowed on Olympic sites. Sebastian says so.
