So is the general thought that as long as we're in place by 9:00, we shouldn't have any issues with getting there by bike on road?

Folks - I am a little concerned that marshals will turn people away as soon as the organisers deem it in the interests of safety. http://www.mole-valley.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=13499

Information on this event has been sporadic and has altered as organisers slowly realise how popular cycling is in the UK and Europe. Some of our neighbouring plots at Headley are concerned and have advise guests to be on site at 7am for the mens race. Since guidance is now based on access being denied when deemed appropriate we do not have a cut-off time to work to and for the sake getting up a few hours earlier I would have to advise that we all aim for 7:00.

The organisers are marshalling all exits including bridle paths and they may, of course, keep these access points open much later. Be early and don't chance it. You will notice that Car Parks open at 6am and are on a pre-booking basis.

Same place for Sunday's women's race for ticket holding members and their paid up guests. Your tickets cover both days.

I will post more info when I get it.

Any further news on this? Turning up five hours before the race is due through doesn't sound good if it's raining. When would the club "facilities" be open? I notice on that link that they are advising that you would be able to walk from the pony club parking along the bridle path with no time restrictions mentioned.

I suppose there's a chance that no security people will turn up at all :D

Oh, 'ang on - I should've just googled.

From: http://www.gosurrey.info/olympic-road-cycling/road-closures/rights-of-way-road-closures-2/. For them who have MTBs/cross bikes.
Over the whole race route, any public bridleway or byway leading to the race route will be closed to horses and vehicles for the last 10 metres only to prevent them getting onto the race route or horses meeting with crowds of spectators. Otherwise they will remain open. There is only one public footpath, FP 76 at Church Hill Pyrford that will be closed for the final 10 metres on the race route as it exits on to a blind bend and there is no footway or verge. These rights of way will be open as soon as the roads are reopened. All other rights of way in the area will be remaining open.

The public rights of way network will be one of the key ways in which spectators will be able to access the race route and we learnt from last years test event that it was not necessary to close as many rights of way. We are very keen to keep the disruption and inconvenience of local users to the absolute minimum while at the same time considering the safety of rights of way users and the crowd management of these Olympic events. You can also use our interactive map to identify the numbers on the public rights of way

The last section if you're taking the bridleway from Walton to the CC is marked as "restricted" which means that they may stop people if there's "no capacity". See map.

I have to say that the more I read of all the palaver of getting onto Box Hill, the better I feel about not going. Plan to watch the race go through Hampton Court/Molesey then return to the comfort of my parents to watch on tv then watch'em zip past again just outside and then back to the telly. Sounds so much more civilised.

There's also this Box Hill Cycling Expo on from 26-29 July.

Interested to know whether anyone who does hold tickets for Box Hill has received them yet? I've received the 'critical information' about getting there early, etc. but it's all been rather quiet on the ticket delivery front. Called the the London 2012 Ticket Team number - however, their introductory message basically says don't bother us about missing tickets unless your event is less than a week away. Still time to receive them, I guess....... :?

Hi Phil, Organisers will stop access to the general public when/if crowing becomes an issue - so no timescale. BUT Jon has established that since we have an organised pitch we are not (effectively) part of the rabble. If Marshals have closed the circuit show them your wristband and they will allow you to proceed to the Cricket Club. We now need to get wristbands out to you and your guests. Brilliant result Jon :D See the e-mail below:

Dear Agreeables

Firstly, great news about the Olympic Road Race. There has been some concern about access to Headley Cricket Club, fortunately it all seems to be sorted - see email reply from LOCOG below which should be self explanatory. Please read carefully:

Hi Jon,

Thanks for your email. This will not be an issue, we have similar situations around the Box Hill Loop.

Because you have an organised event that we know about and your members and guests will be off the road we can facilitate access. We will brief the stewards in your area that the event is on and that your guests can be granted access so long as they can be identified by their wristbands.

Can you please send me through what the wrist bands look like and also a rough idea of where guests will be coming from so we can brief the appropriate stewards.

As you’re probably aware roads will be closed from 4am on the morning of Saturday 28th and from 6am on Sunday 29th. No vehicles will be permitted after these times. Your guests are welcome to walk or cycle to the Headley Cricket Club along the roads until approximately one hour before the cyclists are due to arrive (Cyclists arrive at approx 11:40am on Sat and 14:00 on Sun).

Feel free to give me a call if you would like to discuss things further

Kind Regards,

Kris

I'm planning to take the train to Betchworth and walk the 2 miles or so to the cricket club - is Betchworth the nearest station?

Based on what the LOCOG guy has said we will be allowed to walk on the road until about 10:40 am on Saturday, so if I get to the cricket club by 10:00 am presumably that will be OK?

Sorry if I've missed it somewhere in the postings but presumably we can buy food and drink at the CC?

Hi Jon,
I've PM'd you, but where and when can I pick up my wristband as security is obviously going to be tight.

Cheers
