Keith,

You've put up Steve's recent result - but what about your own ..... (in a Band 3 race) ?

Surrey League (Dulwich Paragon CC)
Location: Bletchingley, Surrey
Event: 05 August 2012
Report: Snowdon Sports
Recording his first win of the season, Peter Allan (BC Private Member) dominated the rest of the field to score a decisive victory in the Dulwich Paragon CC’s 70-mile Surrey League promotion at Bletchingley.
Allan broke away on his own to finish over a minute clear of a 16-strong chasing group who were led in by Harry Franklin (Hargroves Cycles).
Result:
2/3:
1 Peter Allan (BC Private Member) 3:49:00
2 Harry Franklin (Hargroves Cycles) @ 1:11
3 Ben Moores (Norwood Paragon CC)
4 Nick Wilkinson (Dulwich Paragon CC)
5 David Murrell (London Phoenix)
6 Keith Lea (Addiscombe CC)
7 Chris Wood (Wyndy Milla-UK Youth)

Well done, and is it also congratulations on enough points for your Cat 2 upgrade?

I was waiting for the result to go on the Surrey League site before posting it.

An eventful race, although not through any activity on my part.

The last Surrey League race at Henfold Hill was stopped following Police concerns, so prior to the start the BC Commissaire stated any crossing of the broken white lines and he'd stop the race to restate the rules. If he had to stop it again, he'd DQ the offenders. Usually this is applied only to any solid white line (the same rules of the road apply to all road users). This made for a different first lap. 80 riders moving as a solid block solely on one side of country lanes, even where there was clear visibility for overtaking. Moving up was going to be an issue. The weather intervened though.

Next time through Bletchingley village and the heavens opened. I don't think I've ever ridden in such conditions before, let alone raced in it. I feared the race would be stopped - I knew that I'd struggle to restart after such a drenching. However, by the time we got to the south end of the course near Smallfield it was back to sunshine and dry roads. The race continues like this for 7 laps - wet, dry, wet, dry, ...

The wet roads did have the effect of stringing out the bunch, especially on the descents. Some were sufficiently deterred by the torrential rain to DNF and there were plenty of punctures. The race was a war of attrition. 7 laps of the Bletchingley circuit took its toll. By the end there were just 19 of the 80 starters left.

The winner Peter Allan rode an impressive solo race for a well-deserved win. Personally I was aware of a lack of miles of late, so shamelessly hid in the bunch all race, happy to get the race miles in my legs.
well done keith, I saw you cross the line ...

Sorry not to stop Ian, I headed straight back to HQ for some food, the rode home.

Well done Keith, easily a good 2nd cat rider hadn't realised you'd dropped back to 3rd.
