ACC IoW 2012 - DATE CHANGE 26-28 OCTOBER

Postby Amy » Tue Aug 28, 2012 1:03 pm

OK, got the right month this time...

Come on folks, sign up for this. It's good fun, WAGs (ok, just to be pc - and HABs) can come too and amuse themselves while we nip round the island and try various pies and ales before getting back to try yet more pies and ales (or in my case, wine).

If there's enough takers, we can have a couple of groups or just stick altogether, wait as necessary and have fun trying to follow the bike signs. Or why not organise a mountain bike ride instead?

Perhaps we can try different parts of the country at different times of year too????

Do spread the word around and get people to come :D

Thanks, Jon...

This year they've moved Tom's "early release" day from Friday to Monday but I reckon we could get down there.

It's a casual day ride around the island , nothing serious. Maybe even a stop for beer and pie. A nice day out, somewhere different away from the homicidal drivers of Surrey.

I was just wondering where this ride actually is and what it is? I doubt i'll be able to make it because I think school breaks up on the 26th :x I'm a little curious though!

It's the Isle of Wight - we have in the past been based at Yarmouth on the west of the island. Most people get the ferry from Lymington and arrive Friday afternoon/evening, though some have in the past come down on Saturday morning to meet the ride as it leaves about 9am. It's about 60 miles round the island and we can decide whether to go clockwise or anti-clockwise, follow the signs exactly or not :D Lunch is somewhere about halfway round.

Also try and meet up with one of our far-flung members who now lives on the island :D

Can't seem to get much interest to go anywhere at any time of the year!!

The date is only provisional, as suggested by  jnr. Would a week later be better for people? We'd gain an hour's sleep on the Sunday but that's all

Let's see if we can resurrect this annual trip first before we start on anything else (though I do have an idea of having a holiday on the Isle of Man next year...)

I don't think I'm going to be able to make it this year Amy, a re-jig of some deadlines at work means that time off is going to be tricky and/or very last minute.

I like the idea of a trip to the Isle of Mann, I'm an avid watcher of the TT and always fancied riding there to see if I can beat Obree's time over the mountain  .

I think I'd prefer to avoid the TT...

Also like the bit of Spain the Vuelta is going through 8) Galicia, I'm told.

Anyway, back to the IoW...

Sorry for the confusion didn't mean to go there during the TT, would be chaos with all the bikers (the cheating sort with motors) over there then, also carious road closures etc for the racing.

Sorry for taking ages to reply, did't seem to notify me.

A week better would be good, just getting there is the problem for me. I would love to go if I found a way to get there though!! :D :D

Sorry, just got back from Channel Islands :D Lovely there - lots to see, nice roads: just interesting navigating especially on Guernsey as lots of little roads, some one-way and no sign-posts or place-names!

If you can't scrounge a lift, get train to Lymington Pier via Brockenhurst and cross over on ferry to Yarmouth as foot passenger (might be able to book all way through...?)

Anyone else find going a week later better?? ie 26-28 Oct?

26th is better for us cos Tom has an InSeT day.

So we're in if it's the 26th. Who else? Go on, you know you want to.
