London to Paris Challenge

Postby markbayliss » Wed Aug 29, 2012 1:13 pm

Next Wednesday (5th September) I'm doing a challenge from London to Paris called the Enduroman Arch to Arc, this involves:

87 mile run from Marble Arch in London to Dover

Swim the Channel

181 mile bike ride from Calais to Arc de Triomphe in Paris

This has only been completed by 10 people (7 men & 3 women)

I will be the first to complete the swim section (the channel) without wearing a wetsuit

Please sponsor me as not only this will give me huge motivation while doing the challenge Sports Aid is a great charity and it will be wonderful to raise as much as we can.

Good luck Mark. You've trained like a madman for this, which is handy as you have to be nuts to do it  . The channel in September in budgie smugglers  .

Looking at his website, I see he sets off tomorrow at "10:30am Wednesday 5th September".

I like this bit about the swim route, anywhere between "21 miles and 35 miles"

"Depending on the weather and tides, the swim usually starts at either Shakespear Beach or Samphire Hoe. The shortest route from here to France is by swimming directly to Cap Gris Nez however the tides usually make the swimmer swim in an 'S' shape rather than a straight line. The swimmer can swim up to 35 miles and possibly more if the tides are strong and the swimmer is tired".

Google tells me he finished in 73 hours 39 minutes, smashing the previous record of 81:05.

We are not worthy.
