5 Stolen Bikes - from my garage today

Postby simon Lythgoe » Wed Sep 19, 2012 10:17 pm

I'm heartbroken to say that some scum have crowbarred my garage door and stolen my pride and bikes.
They're pretty distinctive so please keep your eyes open.

Saw this when Lucy reposted on Facebook. What a sh1tty thing to happen.

Have you posted this on the BikeRadar Stolen Bikes forum? That and keeping an eye on Gumtree/eBay might show something up.

It's not just the scum who steal them, it's the unprincipled barstewards who buy them.

Sorry to hear this Simon, I know this is too late now but for the future and other Agreeables please secure your garage as per below to top these skumbags taking your bikes.

I have fitted something similar to these on my garage door they fit to the bottom corners and are additional to your generic garage door lock and can be operated from both sides

Make sure your garage door is fitted with 4 point locking system like this

Make sure you have knob type handle that can't be prised with a big lever such as a scaffold tube like this;

Not like this;

Alarm your garage with door and movement sensors

Lock your bikes to the floor with ground anchor or hang them from a securely cemented and or welded RSJ and lock to this.

p.s. don't forget and leave your bike outside :oops:

That's really bad news. Hope you track them down and / or get a decent insurance payout on them.

When you are in the property, a simple driveway alert/alarm (wireless PIR sensor in the garage which sounds a chimer in the house) is quite effective. They are simple to install and will chime to warn you if it detects movement. Provided there's no strong sunlight and the garage is reasonably clean (no spiders running everywhere), the cheap one I got seem to work well enough. Cooling car engines can confuse them too - but still worth trying.

You should consider what you would do if they do come back. One of my colleagues recommended one of these: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXd_VJheMU8&feature=related. That would learn 'em!

I visited stand of the below company and what I saw looked difficult to cut, saw, break, etc... also some anchoring solutions they use are damn claver.
