Garmin Connect - creating courses

Postby Sylv » Fri Sep 28, 2012 4:09 pm

Is anyone familiar with creating courses in GC and sending them to your GPS?

I've downloaded the lastest software version (3.0.0.0) and this is a new feature. It's fine creating a course, but i just can't get it to transfer to my Edge 500. It worked the very first time though, but since then, impossible to get it to transfer. No box appears when i click "send to device" even though the GPS is definitely connected to the computer (have no problem downloading workouts).

Can't find any help by googling ..

I couldn't get Bike Route Toaster to send directly to my 705 either. So I just download the file and copy it over. I have a suspicion it's to do with not being on the latest version of the Garmin plugin.

works fine on BikeRouteToaster.

Make sure you have an account and log on
Create course
Click on Summary tab
In download box give course a name then download it as a TCX file
plug in garmin
Copy course file into "new files" folder on Garmin directory.
disconnect Garmin
Switch on and course will automatically upload
Easy!

registration is/ was on the courses tab.

if you do register it then saves all your courses so you can easily upload again in the future.

...toaster is a brilliant mapping website and the one I use. Don't have a Garmin but use it to send maps to people.

You don't need an account to download routes etc but as Tony says it's worth creating one to save routes. Once saved you can then load then by clicking on link and then send that URL to people.

I use bikehike and it works really well.
You just need to make sure you have the Garmin communicator plug-in to transfer directly to the unit.

I have never got the Garmin plugin to work properly either, and so I save files directly on the Garmin like Tony and Phil.
