Tyres survey - help

Conti 4000s for pretty much most things. Have some Schwalbe Ultremos but will never buy any again. They are awful tyres. I find them slippy in the wet and after the recall debacle where a very large batch of them went out of shape after a couple of rides they really put me off, that was life threatening stuff and I am not kidding. Also used the Schwalbe Luganos which came for free after the Ultremos debacle and they were awful, they didn't last very long at all and had very bad puncture resistance. I have a pair of Ultremos in my garage that I won in a race at the end of last year, once they have been worn I will not be going back to them. Contis are a very good all rounder.

As an update, my rear Michelin Pro 3 has died - too many right-through cuts and two punctures at the end of yesterday's ride. Just ordered another pair, in orange, from JE James, at £20 a pop. Cheapskate that I am, seemed rude not too.

I find myself needing new winter tyres - my main consideration is how easy are they to get on and off the rims??? So, what are Conti 4000s like? If you struggle with them and are a bloke then I'd be stuffed

I don't have any problems with 4000s Amy but it can all depend on the rim tyre combination. If you've been using Contis fine with your wheels then you shouldn't have any issues with the 4000s.

A winter tyre I've seen rated well by folk who get a lot of training miles in is the Vitorria Pave 24mm which I may give a go next time I need some. Vitorrias have always had a reputation as quite a "baggy" tyre as well so getting on and off the rims should be okay. I think Bridget has Vitorrias on her bike.

Vitorrias can be expensive but you can normally find a good price if you shop around on tinternet.

Ta v much, guys. Getting some part-worn contis for now but I'll be keeping an eye out for some new tyres either new contis 4000 or the Vittorias.
