Yes, Frank, who I rode with in Moab last year. Grahame should be able to tell you more about him, he's one of his friends from the Chilterns.

My friend Frank Ho (went to Moab with Sylv, Will and I last October) did it when he was in the US Marine Corp. He's hard as nails, but still finished outsid ethe "official finishers" deadline.

I used to know Gerry Tatrai from Sydney, Australia pretty well. Here are his results:

1991 - 3rd
1992 - 3rd then he had a major training accident. He suffered a broken ankle, femur, pelvis in three places, three ribs and a punctured lung when a car took him out.
1993 - 1st 8:20:19
1994 - dnf (2291 miles, pulled muscle)
1995 - 3rd
1996 - 4th
1997 - did not start
1998 - 1st 8:11:22
1999 - 3rd

MTB legend Tinker Juarez is the rookie everybody will be watching out for this year. Long way to go!

They are apparently 2 different events.

The one that Jane's doing is over a few weeks. Good on her.

The RAAM is a completely insane event where you go across America over 10 days - non-stop riding. People usually do it as teams of 4 or 6 and they have to do stints of 10miles at a time at a minimum of evens pace.
A few triathletes I know have done it - they really enjoyed it - not only are they insane but they're not big on sleep - a big advantage in this of event.
