Winter in the Park Series 8 Results - U16

My first ever race was on Saturday, considering I must of been one of the youngest there (i'm 14 yrs old!) and it was out of 24 people, I think I did alright! :)

Well done, how did the race unfold, were you in a break or did a few guys get away? Was it a sprint finish?

Hey Matt, well done mate. Thats a pretty decent effort for your first race. Now we have no idea what the race was like so we await your race report. Being that you're still in school writing a 2-3 paragraphed race report will be effortless. Hurry up now!

The race was about 50 minutes long. A group of us (about 14) were in a breakaway which peeled off around 3 laps (15-20 minutes) to go. At first I didn't think I was going to get in as I was stuck behind one of the U12's!! but I managed to close the gap on my own easily enough.
There was a sprint finish but I wasn't in the right position to be in with a chance. I was near the back, knowing I had to move up and managed to move up a few places but was carved up. :x
On the final straight there was a sprint finish but as I said I wasn't near enough to the front but managed to climb up a few more places on the sprint.

I loved it though and now I have some experience I'm looking to come 1st next time!!!!

Excellent.

Are you thinking of hitting the Palace Tuesday evenings? They normally start around May. If you can reach Burgh Heath with your bike by 4:45pm then we can give you a lift.

Yes, I have added them to my British Cycling calender. I could easily cycle up there for 4:45pm so that would be great! Definitely count me in! :D
Would it also be OK to get a lift back to Burgh Heath? My mum might be able to pick me up from there . Thanks for thinking about me, I really appreciate it.

P.S. Thanks everyone, I have gone down to 10th now ( :( ) so your welcome to take it back!!!

Nice one Matt, forgive me for being a miserable old git but I was expecting more info in that report. Obviously you're saving the indepth analysis for your next report  Here's somethings it would be nice to know
What was your race strategy?
How were you feeling before the race?
What was the weather like?
Who looked strong?
Were there any close shaves?
What did you do well?
What do you need to work on?
Did you know any of the racers? etc

What was your race strategy? - It was my first race... so not to lose!
How were you feeling before the race? - A bit... OK I was crapping myself!!!!!!
What was the weather like? - Cold but the wind wasn't strong.
Who looked strong? - Everyone who was about 2ft taller than me!
Were there any close shaves? - There were a couple of crashes, one which nearly saw me going over the handlebars too!
What did you do well? - I think staying in the breakaway was good enough for me in my first race... oh, and not coming last!!!
What do you need to work on? - Getting to the front of the group before the final sprint.
Did you know any of the racers? - No, not from looking at them. I had done a bit of research about the riders beforehand though and recognized a few names.

Next time I will try and do a bit more detail for you and put it in paragraphs but as you said, i'm still in school and have quite a bit of homework (it's my GCSE year... and next year).

Well done Matt!

By the time we have the club race in Sept you'll be a seasoned racer, so please remember to take it easy on us oldies!
