Early Season Memorial Time Trial 24th March

Postby Andrew G » Sat Jan 12, 2013 5:37 pm

I just wanted to post this up to see if anyone was interested who isn't a regular tester but maybe rides the Club 10s fancied it.

The Southern Counties Cycling Union (SCCU) 21 mile sporting TT has been run for years by Don Glover. Sadly Don passed away last year and this year's is being run as a memorial to him. It would be nice to have a good turnout from Addiscombe. He was a true gent and put a hell of a lot in to local racing.

The TT is in Bletchingley and uses the same course that we use for one or two of our club TTs, usually the inter-club events. It's the lumpy one in the lanes. In our Club TTs it is just under 11 miles and we do one lap, in this event you carry on through where we finish in the Club TT and go round again for a second lap and finish on the little flat bit at the top of the last hill after your second lap.

If you would like to race but have not entered an Open TT before then feel free to post or drop me a line and I'll help you out with your entry form and address of where to send your cheque, entry is £8, first rider is off at 9am, and internet entry is available if you register through the CTT website. Closing date for entries is 12th March.

Nice idea Andrew - Don was a lovely guy, this would be a nice way for ACC to show some respect in memory of someone who put a lot into the sport. Hope it goes well.

"Road Closed" signs at both end of Outwood Lane (road from Smallfield to Bletchingley). Water main replacement work.

Speaking to the workmen, new tarmac will be put down tomorrow and the work will be completed for the weekend :D Thought I was going to miss another TT due to roadworks.

Really hope the tarmac is down in time, with such a big field out in memory of Don it would be terrible if it had to be cancelled.

Would be nice to see you on the roadside Amy, apologies in advance for the face I'm likely to be pulling :) .

Forecast looks a bit grim. It's a shame as I look sooo good in my skinsuit. Might ditch the deep section front wheel too. Will take both and see how it looks.

[quote]Hi all,

I am sorry to have to tell you that I have cancelled the SCCU Hardriders event which was to be held tomorrow.

Your entry fees will be returned via the CTT system, although I'm not sure how this works but I have already informed Keith Lawton that the event won't be going ahead.

I have had reports from people who live in Bletchingley that there is snow laying on Outwood Lane. In addition the temperature forecast overnight are below freezing, so the probability of black ice is very high.

The SCCU will run the event next year with the similar prize list. Look forward to seeing you in 2014.

All the best,

Tony

Yes, received the mail.

Shame. Tom was looking forward to his first open event. Me, less so.

Do we still get the Rawson Shield points?

Pity, stupid weather for the end of March.

No Phil, Rawson Shield points for starting. I believe you need to sign in.

Not surprised event cancelled - oh well, good time for me to have this cough... still - 2nd weekend off bike  And at least, we can put off seeing Phil in his skin suit

As for the weather - it's more likely to snow at Easter than Christmas. It can and has snowed in May before now: my Mum can remember the snow in May 1955 especially as it was just before her birthday. As far as I'm aware it could snow anytime in the uk - ok more likely at higher altitude and further oop north - considering we're at about the same latitude as Newfoundland!! Just lucky we have the Gulf Stream - think what it'd be like if that stopped or shifted south as they keep worrying now over climate change.
