Surrey League ACC RR 2/3 Bletchingly April 6th
Keith Lea makes a move to bridge and so I jam-it into the big ring and make it onto his wheel, and we give it ‘full gas’ up the drag onto the main road (where it transpire I broke my 5 minutes maximum power record in the process*). I’ve been in the break with Keith before, and he’s the most unassuming diesel train you’ll meet -what could go wrong?
Race Reports. Well done Richard and Keith there were quite a few DNF;s on such 'lovely icey cold spring' afternoon. It would've been nice to have read the race winner Mike Debney's (London Dynamos) report but perhaps the excessive mud slinging from a few years ago at their club/members continues to ensure their message boards remain off limits to non members.

There’s something nice about a local race, one that the ride to from home is a nice little warm up. I even had a DisAgreeable escort. :D

The main break went on the 2nd or 3rd full lap. I was still recovering from an earlier effort. With a few additions a quality group of 8 or 9 formed. Much later two pairs of riders pinged off the bunch, forming a group that impressively caught the lead group and took the spoils on the line.
I did eventually get away late on and into a group of 4/5, but only a couple of us were working so we were caught before the line by the first few of the main bunch.

A disappointing race for me with regards to my performance & subsequent results. Last week’s “jour sans” at the Brighton Mitre Hilly TT turned out to be the start of a lurgy and I spent all of last week trying to recover ready for the ACC race. Unfortunately I wasn’t back to full speed. To continue Alex’s “diesel” analogy above, it was like the turbo my been removed; I’d no sustained power.

Once more, thanks again to all those who helped out; without you there is no race.

P.S. Toks, the racing section of the KW forum is now closed, like Dynamo. Pity, as it used to be a good read.

No Worries, Keith. Once you're back at 100% with a bit of luck you'll get that killer result

That was a hard race...made harder by my over-eagerness mid race. My first mass start road race for...um...15 years (jeez am I really getting that old?) reminded me of the difference between training pace and race pace. Still, it was great to get back in the saddle for real and at least now I know where I'm at. I know Keith wasn't too happy with his performance but he was still working hard all race. Getting away from the bunch at any point in that race is a good performance in my eyes.

Onward and upward.

Oh, thanks to everyone who organised/marshalled/helped out in any way. From a participant's point of view the day ran very smoothly and that's down to all of you. Thanks.
