SCCU 25 - 14/4/13

Postby Andrew G » Sun Apr 14, 2013 9:32 pm

Four of us on the G25/45 today in nice reasonably mild weather but with a nasty 15mph wind with a bit of gusting.

I'm in terrible shape but was quite happy with the way I went and felt, just couldn't push on as I would like as I didn't have it in the legs. The wind was head-on down the A29 so couldn't take full advantage of that nice run after the draggy start up the A24, which also meant that the drag up to Hop Oast was block head wind too. The run from Southwater to the finish was a joy though :) .

Quite happy with my ride considering my fitness, or lack of, 5 and a half minutes slower than the only other time I've ridden the course but that was also on a calmer day. Once things have settled down my truncated season proper will probably start around June but nice to get some racing miles in the legs.

Rob R-E 1.06.36
PVT 1.10.40 (he doesn't like the course, and had a spin to the seaside afterwards to cheer himself up :) )
Mo 1.01.51
Andrew G 1.05.56

Sorry you're still suffering Phil, but much better to sort your health out before racing efforts.

Event was won with a mid 54.

Nice one Andrew building up slowly  Hey so no report from the big mile muncher. Common Mo how was it? Did you feel you could've shaved off those ~2mins hour. Seeing as you like really long rides, how did you prepare for such a short one?... How your knees OK now? Any power numbers?

Report for Toks :D

It is what it is Toks - crap time by my standards but that's to be expected considering I've neglected the thresh/vo2max/anaerobic intensity and been concentrating on base.
More details: V.windy as Andrew's already mention. My TT position felt uncomfortable for some reason. Overtraining and knee issues probably contributed to the crap time, as would have poor gear shifting .
Any additional points: that course is approx 1.5-2mins slower than the standard g25/53 and has approx 2 x more climbing as well.
Avg Power? - rubbish - it was 85% of my FTP

Conclusion: Do some intensity and sort out the TT position

Funnily enough, I set my 25 PB on the G45 course (as opposed to the 53). Maybe I prefer the up & down of the A29 to the drags on the A264 bit. Also with about 10 miles to go, Cap'n Jon & Sam gee'd me up with a shout of "pedal harder you fat b*stard!" (you can see this on the Garmin data). At least that's what I thought they said.

This is why we need ACC marshalls for the event BTW.

Climbing is almost identical but gained differently. Longer drag on the 45, shorter hit to Tollgate on the 53. Surface is better on 53 which is mainly why it tends to be quicker, but only about a minute I'm afraid Mo.
