Ah, fork

Got a replacement fork for my TT bike. It needs the steerer cutting and a star-fangled nut inserting. The steerer is carbon.

Anyone got any tips on doing this without trashing the fork? Like maybe get a professional to do it.

Very fine toothed blade on the saw, a 90degree cut. Personally I'd take it to GBs, so much easier. If it's like my 3T forks then the nut is in a sleeve which you glue in to the steered. It came with a two part epoxy to mix a smear on the sleeve, push in the fork making sure it's in square, and then leave to set. Give it at least 24 hours.

I get the steered cut at the shop but the nut instal is an easy DIY affair.

Of course, if I hadn't sent the old one back to Planet X then I'd know the exact length, be able to mark it and get GBs to do it. I'm busy all weekend though so getting it sorted for Tuesday is a thing. Could just put a pad for my chin on the top of the tube.

If you're wanting to do it yourself, use a pair of spacers as a saw-guide to get the cut square.

I've just assembled it all without the 5mm spacer, drawn a line a couple of mm above the top of the thing. Will drop it into GB's tomorrow.

If I had to ride Tuesday's 10 on my road bike I might be embarrassingly slow. OK, I will be embarrassingly slow whatever.
