Looks like people had a good evening, as demonstrated by me knocking a healthy chunk off my PB yet only coming in 9th in the handicap.

[quote="Andrew G"]Very good conditions and a lot of resurfaced road with beautiful smooth tarmac ...

Hadn't it already been resurfaced late last season? (Not that I'm complaining.)

Thanks all for last night - to the pushers and marshals, start and finish people! Lovely night to be spent on a dual-carriageway. Hugely pleased with a 1:47 PB from last yr - looking forward to more 10-mile pain for the next!
Naomi.

NB. Andrew, my surname is GaylEr by the way, not 'GaylOr', cheers! : )

I have something a bit different to that on my computer

If 28:28 is correct then there must be a lot of members in the 300W club

Lockey bit of a slow time old boy, to join the 300w club you have to hold 300w in a 25tt. Not just a 10

I knocked best part of 2 mins of my PB last night so quite pleased. Was hoping to get near Keith but he put in a good PB as well :D good ride fella.

I'll do a couple more and see if I can do a sub 23. TT's aint really my thing really. I get bored.

Nice to beat a few of the pointy hat crewe though.

Thanks for posting up the times Andrew.

Thanks Ant. That's an impressive time to have knocked off your PB.

Watts aren't everything Mark. Aerodynamic drag is another big factor, you could ride a TT bike on tri bars in a very un-aero position and a road bike in a much more aero one. If you look at pictures of pre-aero bar testers then you can see that they may not have had their arms in but were pretty damn aero with elbows tucked right in and a flat back.

It's also not just what power you put it out but how you are putting it out over the duration of a TT and how you ride the undulations. You could ride a much faster 10 with a much lower average power than 300.

Next time try and either keep your hand on the bend on the drops all the time, or ride on the hoods with your arms parallel to the road, your elbows tucked in and keep a flatish back (core strength helps as it can make your back hurt, but TTs do hurt when your trying hard so just try and ignore the pain and push through it - this is obviously caveated by not being stupid with it particularly if you suffer from back problems anyway). Basically you want to create as small front area as possible and the limiting factors are your head (which will tend to be the highest point of your body) and your shoulders as they are a fixed width. Imagine yourself head on and draw a circle with the top being the top of your head and the widest point being you shoulders, then try and keep everything inside that circle without elbows etc sticking outside of it. Then simple rules, don't start too fast, and try and keep the effort fairly even not peaks of hammering it and dips of recovery.

Naomi, sorry.

Training is hard. Moaning takes much less effort.

I think you misunderstand my comment. I wasn't a moaning but simply pointing out that I think the time was wrong.

It's a club 10 Put on by volunteers not Olympics so I'm not fussed at all just simply expressing my thoughts.

Andrew, thanks for the info. I did try being aero and was holding a pretty steady power figure for most of the ride according to the file in WKO.

Guess we'll see next time if my time improves or not

For example, my time was done with an average around 300W.

 Really? If I got back pain riding a TT, I'd question my set-up.

Sorry Keith not being clear was I. I meant TTs should hurt in general from the effort you put in, basically suffering and pushing yourself hard. Back pain from a lack of core strength when in an aero position as you use core muscles more when pivoted over. As an example I'm fine racing on my TT bike but when I do a 100 can get a bit of back pain if my core is weaker and take advantage of turns to stretch it out. Admittedly a 100 is a different ball game to a 10 but then I'm used to racing in a TT position for prolonged periods so the same effects could occur in short distance events if you aren't used to riding in the position.

I'll double check your time Mark if you think it's wrong, what do you think you did-ish?
