Was chatting with Tom on the way back from the TT last night and we were speculating on silly rides to do in the area. Taking the idea of the CTC Hilly 50 - which is the nastiest Surrey climbs in a short distance - I sketched up this: http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/221522961
I was wondering if any of the people who know Kent better than I could improve it.
Roughly it's out from CSS over Farthing Down, up to Bletchingly, back to Caterham via White Hill. Then across the A22 through the Woldingham girls' school and up Gangers. Down Titsey, along Pilgrims' Way over Clacketts lane, over the A25 then up Toys via Puddledock, down to Brasted, up Ide, down the B road then a left above Bough Beech, up Yorks, back down the B road up Toys Hill Road, down to Brasted again, up Brasted Hill, back down to Pilgrims' Way. Along there to Titsey and right up White Lane. Down through Woldingham (could add another climb here from the bottom - not Succombs) through Caterham up Waller Lane and back across Farthing Downs.
Any suggestions for improvement? It's about 100km as it stands - which is a nice easy distance. Anyone fancy doing it later in year? It crosses itself too much to be a good Sportive route if we were to ever put one on again.
I like to call this route "Total and utter Kent".
