Cycling route through Croydon from N to S

Now I've returned to the club run, been trying a few different routes to CSS from my place to the North of Croydon.

So if I am riding in from London Road past the hospital, is there any way to avoid riding Wellesley Road or Roman Way (or Purley Way?) I've assumed there must be some way, but I'm yet to find it...

I'd go up to West Croydon, through the High Street pedestrian zone (carefully), then along South end straight down to Purley.

Ah yes - seems obvious now I've looked at a map properly, but then my navigation skills are pretty poor! Thanks Bridget.

The problem I find with Croydon is not knowing what's a one way street and which way it is. Took me ages to perfect a route going west-east to get to club room.

Stick to the main roads, ie A23, and do a one footed paddle along the pedestrianised bit between M&S and Allders.
Plus, if you're feeling peckish you can always nick a chip off some random chubster that's just waddled out of McDonalds. Risk with quieter residential streets is lack of attention paid by peds and motorists. Much more likely to be doored, taken out by a dash-out, cat, child, car etc than if barreling down a bus lane or dual carriageway.
