Crystal Palace: Tuesdays, starting April 25th

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Crystal Palace: Tuesdays, starting April 25th

Postby Toks » Wed Apr 19, 2006 12:47 pm

A very short, tight and technical circuit. Everyone gets dropped initially but there are lots of different groups to ride around with when it happens and believe me it will happen! Its great training for both fitness and bike handling skills. If your a newbie, 3rd/4th cat come on down. I'll be up there most tuesdays starting next week. The race lasts approximately 50mins and costs £10. I think it starts at 7.30pm. Be There, Or Be An Audax Rider!! :)

It's 7pm Toks. http://www.londoncyclesport.com/news_2006/crystal.html

I hope to do some of these, finally got my road license, and will do my best not to get dropped on the climb like last year ... see you there.

Cheers Sylv. They need to sort out, in Cycling Weekly they put 7.30pm. Its best to get there at 7pm just in case. If I recall you rode really well last year. Hope to see you up there. Hopefully my main crit buddy will come along too!

Crystal Palace Circuit League : 25/4/06
The first night of racing at Crystal Palace in 2006 held on April 24 & hosted by Dulwich Paragon

Reports to follow soon although there are only a few pictures as the camera went funny.

3/4/W
1 Andrew Bye PM - 44.48 - 23 laps
2 Alex Aldham-Breary PCA/Ciclos Uno - 45.00
3 Simon Lewis VC Londres
4 David Shulland PM
5 James King De Laune CC
6 Quentin Tring Brixton Cycles
7 n/a
8 Max McCalla VC Londres
9 Tim Harris Addiscombe CC
10 Louise Mahe Sutton CC/De Ver

Well done on 9th place Tim !

Due to a last minute change of plan numbers of riders at Crystal palace was high !

Richard Munday, Tim Harris, Sylvain Garde, George (Hincapie ?), Jack (new member and strong racer) and myself.

Whilst Toks was busy eating cakes and Richard Viney was making solo attacks in Hillingdon we all had a good ride around Palace.

My best bit was getting some coaching from Palace first timer and natural George who went past me shouting, 'LETS GO' on the climb and then around the corners going 'LOOK NO BRAKES'!

Who said we're not a racing club ! We must have been the biggest representation out there except London Dynamo !

Feeling way too tired to race today, but if I get home early enough and the weather holds, I'll try come take photos - enjoyed it last time. If so I'll be at the tight right-hander ;-)

well, I think 7 of us turned up to race and one or two for support. It cetainly was fun in an odd sort of way, but this will be brief, average speed about 23mph and my average heart rate was 176bpm! well more later, good night.

Oh my dayz, that was Bloody hard!...I haven't raced for a month but I've been training fairly regularly, obviously not enough :( . Hillingdon can be tough, Eastway is tougher still, but life at the bottom of the road racing pyramid doesn't get tougher than Palace

Stay in the front third of the bunch. Check. Take the fastest lines on all the bends. Check. Mark all the jumps made by the big guns driving things at the front. Check. Don't allow gaps to open up when riders in front of you begin to weaken. Check. Adhere to this simple plan for all 27 laps. FAIL!!!!!!. My aerobic torture ceased with just 11 laps to go.

Big hats off must go to first timers Matt, Kieran, Kevin, and well done again Jack for really giving it a go!...In racing terms Mr T Harris is now ACC's race Daddy. Fresh from a fantastic 35th place in the Fred Whitton challenge he dug very deep and grabbed 4th spot.

In the E12's our old mate Mr Perez got him self involved in a 3 man breakaway which went clear quite early on. His two companions obviously drove things really hard coz the Aussie fast man had nothing left at the finish and only grabbed 3rd spot...More anaerobic therapy next week, take care guys

P.S. Thanks to Sean, George and Kevin for their support

Well, lets see, I didn't get off to a good start as I strategically positioned myself at the back of the bunch on lining up for the start and things didn't get much better after that. The big bunch of 3/4ths got strung out due I think to those lovely corners and finally snapped and broke into a main bunch and little pieces following behind. I managed to find a qroup of similar ability to stick with for the rest of the race and we managed to pick up Jack (in his new ACC top) and Kevin. Afraid we didn't have any team plan apart of hanging on and not getting dropped by the girl in the group. I'd like to thank the unknown rider who set the pace at the front for most of the time, if I'd been at the front the pace would have been more sedate (time to enjoy the park). Made it to 6th last lap or thereabouts before they started pulling in lapped riders and by this time Tim was the only ACCer left (Jack was still zipping around the circuit in 'the zone') in contention. I then took up position with the rest of the gang at the finish line to cheer Tim on.

In conclusion, a good night, next time I must try to improve my cornering technique and maybe pedal in a lower gear to give faster acceleration out of the corners and also up the hill. Did anyone else notice that time seemed to slow down near the end? laps seemed to take forever, but my computer says otherwise.

Just figured out my average bpm of 176 is 90% of my max, will be interesting to see it that improves.
