Reading CC 25 - 11th August

Bentley this morning, with Dom unable to start due to work there was Terry, Naomi and I down to face the timekeeper.

Bit windy this morning which made it tough on the out leg, not helped by doing my warm up and the first half of the race in the rain. Once off I was travelling a bit slower than I'd have liked but felt surprisingly okay considering I'd spent 5 hours the previous afternoon digging the garden over. I enjoyed the tail wind assisted return to the second turn but after having passed the start point again my legs started to shout unpleasant things at me in to the wind. Despite the tail wind finish I struggled in the last five miles as the previous days labours told.

Finished with 1:03:02 so it's safe to say that 5 hours hard digging isn't ideal race preparation  .

Terry had a tough morning with a number of things out to get him and DNF :( .

On my ride back to HQ after finishing I bumped in to Naomi, who was off at the back end of the field, and wished her well and passed on the wind news. Sorry I couldn't hang around to see you at the finish but I drove passed you when you were at about 10-11 miles in and you looked to be going well, hope you had a good race. It's a decent course and when the wind isn't as strong as today can be quite fast, due to it's direction if it's windy then it runs up and down the course so you get a slow leg and a fast leg like today.

When I spoke to Andrew immediately after my ride on Sunday I was feeling really sorry for myself but it didn`t last for long.

Firstly it was windy down at the start area and neither myself or the pusher-off heard the timekeeper say go so I wasted time there. After I finally got going I couldn`t index my gears properly, sometimes the cable gets caught going into the frame I managed to get a couple of gears going on the fly.

As Andrew said the return leg was very nice and I managed to make up most of my lost time. Arriving at the Farnham rbt there was a stream of traffic and I had to trackstand waiting for my turn to go after almost falling off it was my turn to and as I was in a big gear couldn`t really get going , so nearly got in trouble there.

After grovelling in the wind up past the start I was overtaken by a seeded rider going about 10mph faster than and then by another just starting his ride this was the last straw and my head fell off and I am ashamed to say that I turned off the course for a dnf.

I hope for better luck in our open 10 at Holmwood in a couple of weeks time.

Terry

Oh dear, poor Terry! I think i saw you go past one way and didn't see you come back...

When I arrived it was pissing with rain and I wondered what we were doing on a dual carriageway on a grey sunday morning while other (normal) people are enjoying lie-ins and fry-ups...

Yes, VERY windy out and VERY easy back - seemed like it took forever to get out to Holybourne both directions.

They didn't have my time at the hall but think it was about 1:06 or 1:07 - was hoping for nearer 1:05 but pleased I am not slower than the 25 in April!

Most people i spoke to in the hall felt they were a couple of mins off their 'normal time'.

Andrew - are the results up anywhere? Can't see them on the CTT site

This sounds a bit brutal - I'm glad I opted for South Wales on Saturday!

Results will be through soon Naomi, some organisers are quicker than others and some send them to the CTT email some don't.
