Pacing PVT around the Redmon GP this morning, chucked it down as I got the car out but cleared up for the race, just wet roads and a bit of puddle avoidance.
Nasty head wind on the A24/A29 out leg which made it tough going, a bit of a slog on all bar the slight downs of the A29 rolls. Still hard on the Marches Roads cross back to the A24 but then picked up the tailwind for the return, which made the early rolls and later drags much easier. In fact the first drag after Capel RAB was done comfortably at 27mph.
We weren't caught by anyone and on the final miles had our 4 minute men in sight. I chased them down but we were held up at Beare Green RAB which stopped the catch before the finish...sort of.
The finish was at the top of the long drag after Beare Green and at the 200m board Paul came out from behind to sprint for the line. We passed our catches pacer who'd eased and I came alongside Paul to shout him on, he then blew up a bit with the uphill sprint and I dropped in front again to the flag finishing just behind the catches vet.
Finish time was 37:57 giving Paul a vets +2:46.
Sadly Terry and Steve were DNS as Steve came down with the lurgy.
The event was won by David Pollard paced by Michael Hutchinson with +9:28, they also won scratch with 31:38.
Pleased with our ride comparing to other riders on the board, only lost one minute per 5 miles to a pairing of one of the best women testers paced by one of the best men.
