Southdowns Bikes Sporting Classic, 2nd Feb '14

Postby Keith » Mon Feb 03, 2014 8:20 am

First event of the season for me. 34km hilly time trial from Storrington.

    1. Pete Morris, Team ASL360, 00:50:35
    2. Simon McNamara, Southdowns Bikes, 00:50:42
    3. Dan Gardner, Speg Project 51-SCU, 00:52:10
    ...
    10. Keith Lea, Addiscombe CC, 00:54:49
    ...
    21. Robert Drake, Addiscombe CC, 00:59:07

Stand out performance of the morning for me was 3rd place Dan Gardner, a junior on a road bike!

Strong headwind on the way out. Seemed a lot busier this year; I had to back off 4 times due to cars, actually stopping at one point. Last year I had a clear run.

My time was good enough for 3rd road bike, plus 2nd vet overall, so I came away with a rear light, 2 latex inner tubes and a £20 voucher for Southdowns Bikes which I promptly spent on the shop opposite race HQ :-)

Thanks to Simon McNamara and his team for a well run event. Loads of marshals out on the road.

Racing? Nah, just a motivated threshold training session. First race isn't 'til March :D

Ah, same as I use my early SPOCOs for. I still don't start them until March though :) , but I'm much lazier than you.
