Addiscombe Members Circuit Race 16th March 2014

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Nick B,

Have no idea about people's travel plans. Though i can see MattR in the thread history has kindly offered space in his car from addiscombe. Otherwise I can ask around on the club run on saturday.
I'm not travelling back till later but I'm sure we can get you their.

Cheers
Ben

Hi,

Matt's very kindly offered me a lift, which is fantastic. However, if anyone is leaving from Coulsdon or Purley it would save me a journey, so would be grateful if anyone has space in a car for me plus bike!

[quote="Toks"]I think this has to be fairly unique for ACC to have a Club Race so early in the season. But unlike the late Members only summer races if your competitive juices really start flowing its great coz you're at the beginning of the season (no waiting till the following year to get going!) so there's plenty of time to improve - get fitter - race again and then really kick some butt/get revenge etc come the end of summer race. So two weeks to go, is anyone taking bets? I hope it goes well - especially for newbie/novice types.

Whatever you do don't don't follow MAREK - he generally launches a suicide attack after 1/3rd of a lap and then slowly begins to die; even though he appear to be looking good he's got short term written all over him. The 2nd attack assuming he's still around will look even more promising but unfortunately it will come to nothing. Nevermind he's a great sport . Right then, Marek for the win  8)
PS Once Again, well done Ben :D

Only thing I will be launching is my breakfast, I ain't fit, this will be a training session for me.

See you Sunday

Cheers Ben, was a good laugh, nice little training session. I managed to just about get back with 5 minutes to spare to pick up my youngest so missed the after race banter which was a shame.

Cheers

Stephen won the sprint from a break of three, so well done to him. Prior to that, a few had tried their hand off the front. They can tell their own stories.

Sorry for any incorrect spelling of names. 13 Riders took part in the A race. I’ve listed everyone. Couple of mechanicals, others just using, for training etc. (This is more than welcomed and encouraged).

A Race
1 Stephen Broomfield
2 Rich Buerckner
3 Paul Hone
4 Jonathan Pontin
5 Shaun Kennedy
6 Anthony McCoy
7 Marek Siwicki
8 George Brent
9 Robert Drake, Scott Amory, Brian Thompson, Antony Leeson and Rogan Redfarn

B race to follow.

What fun that was today. A big thanks to Ben for organising todays races and to all those that turned up to race.

My race in the A's was cut short due to a nagging knee pain that came on in saturdays club run while sprinting flat out. Shame as my legs felt good today. Had a little foray off the front early on so I could get a wave in to my wife and daughter who came down to watch me race. Once back in the bunch it was quite a slow pace due to a nagging head wind out on the back of the circuit and everyone was just following wheels. Marek shot off the front moaning about it being a boring race and it was only a bit of wind. Can always rely on him to do a kamikaze attack off the front :D

I sat and waited for the obvious attack to come from Paul H and Rich and I wasn't disappointed. As soon as it came I just latched on to Pauls wheel and dug deep to stay with them. Steve B came across as well to make it a 4 man break but unfortunately this was to be my last I'd see of them as my knee just didn't want to keep up when having to get out of the saddle so I pulled off to the side and dropped out. That left Paul, Steve and Rich to battle it out for the last few laps, the sensible money being on Steve who went on to win comfortably in the final sprint. Hats off to all 3 of them for making the break and making it stick.

Steve had sent me a text early in the morning saying he wasn't feeling well and didn't think he was going to race. I bet he's glad he did now.

Just a great day over all. Weather was warm and sunny despite the stiff breeze and the racing was fun. Well done all. Roll on august for the next race. :D

Ashley won a very hotly contested sprint, just edging out Leon to take the B race win. They were part of a breakaway group of four. Again sorry for any incorrect spelling of names or any glaring errors. 18 Riders took part. A small handicap was applied at the start of the race. I’ve listed everyone.
An overall note of thanks to Paul Hone and Jon Camden for covering first aid duties, for the relevant race. Also to Sam Holden for producing a great flyer.

We have the circuit booked again from 9am to 1pm, on Sunday 17th August.

B Race
1 Ashley Nunn
2 Leon Grant
3 Andrew Ellis
4 Colin Moyer
5 Sam Holden
6 Matthew Radford
7 Jonathan Steer
8 Ryan Bond
9 Alastair Wolstenholme
10 Drew Scott-Dawkins
11 Nick Bailey
12 Tim Moody
13 Simon Suter
14 Andy Curran
15 Nick Leeder
16 Tom Hawkes
17 Jon Camden
18 Phil Hawkes

Thanks for organising this, Ben. It was a fantastic day - glorious weather, great racing and Cyclopark is a brilliant venue. Thoroughly enjoyed myself despite being particularly useless on the bike today - competely blown after two laps!! argh!!

Anyway, I got to ring the last lap bell - a life time's ambition fulfilled, and wave the chequered flag. Fabulous!! . :D

Hi all,

Great race, thanks for organising Ben!

Random question: I seemed to have an epic Garmin failure after the race - does anyone have a garmin file of the B race they can email me so I can capture the miles on Strava? Manual entries don't count - for obvous reasons. colinmoyer@mac.com

I know I am taking this Strava mileage thing far too seriously!

Thanks,

Colin

Thanks again Ben for organising the days 2 great races and to everyone that raced

B race was great fun, good organised through and off early on in the chase group to catch the first group and then I managed get across to Leon who had attacked out of the combined group on the slow hairpin and was riding really strongly. We rode alone for a few laps and I was relieved when Colin and Andy managed to get across and share the work. again we rode well together and managed to stay away from the chasers. Last lap Leon when from a long way out, and I really struggled to stay with him and get on his wheel, I switched to the other side of the track and threw my bike at what I thought was the line. Neither of us were sure so I was relieved to get the win when we got back to the finish and Ben gave us the results.

After a 3rd and now 1st in the 'B' race, survival is my aim in august's 'A' race. Congrats to Steve on his 'A' Race win yesterday.
Colin, I'll try and extract that file from my garmin for you.

Chapeau again Ben for putting on a great day of racing. I think having the A and B races run seperately worked out well and helps avoid any confusion during the race and the different races mixing. Also gives people a chance to watch the other race as well, which is all good fun too :D

B race was good, as Ashley said we worked well from the start to make the catch and after Ashley and Leon got a gap i managed to bridge across followed by Colin. We worked well to stay away and only started looking at each other on the last lap. I blew my biscuits chasing down Leon and Ashley on the final half lap and managed to get back on just as they opened the sprint

Great rides by both, they were clearly the strongest two in our race. Special well done to Leon as it was his first ever race so was a doubly great ride. Hope to be back for a rematch in August :D

Well done to all in the A race, it looked pretty brutal and i was surprised it broke up so much. Once Paul, Rich and Steve had gone it was hard to see it ever coming back together, and with such strong wind no real surprise it ended in a sprint. Well done Steve 8)
