Well done Tim, blimey mate you are piling on the points. You are going to be second cat in no time. I am interested to hear how you got on in the race and why you were not in the breakaway.

I think I should have joined you, I went over to Rolvenden in Kent and did the SERRL race but I was feeling rotten and DNFed.

Cheers

Well done Tim, I had though about it but Goodwood is so far away and the weather was looking so bad I chickened out and did the wet club run on Saturday instead. How was the racing?

Well done Tim! That sounds like a very creditable bunch sprint win. I just hope you get your points. They're not very good at recording the results and passing them on to the BCF down at Goodwood - you'll be riding with the E12's down at Palace soon  ...Damn, I can't believe that in 11 weeks I've only raced five times. I couldn't race on sunday cause of a trapped nerve in my back thats been affecting my breathing :( ...Marek I was suprised that you weren't racing at Goodwood on Sunday. That circuit is almost perfect for guys like you, Tim and Simon

I took the decision to race in Kent on the hills. Max was racing as well so he needed someone to keep him company, although only for 5/7ths of the race. Goodwood is perfect for me but it is a bit of a boring place to race compared to the cut and thrust of a proper road race with real hills etc.

Mind you when the weather improves I may make a re-appearance at Goodwood, maybe we can get an ACC train going and lead out our star sprinter, sounds like Tim is the next McEwen, if he had a team around him he could be the next Petacci.

Cheers

Sunday Morning and no rain had fallen in London so I thought I would drive to Goodwood and race.. just as I was arriving it fell out of the sky.. I sat in the car debating whether or not to race and very nearly took the not race option!!

15 lap race was announced and there was a fair bit of wind to go with the rain? Brilliant!!

last time I raced at Goodwood it was windy and someone attacked from the gun which split the field up.. so I thought I would give it a go? so off I went from the go and managed to get about 20m and a couple of riders with me..but we were soon closed down? that didn?t work then? I was determined to try and get in a break this race as I had not been in one before and Mr Cave had advised me to work on this part of my game.. usually I opt to sit in near the front and sprint for the line!

I attacked about 5 times in the first 3 or 4 laps... learning from previous breakaway attempts at Hillingdon I moved to the left of the pack and dug in rather than just trying to ride off the front? I managed to form a couple of good breaks but we were chased down.. this was a good thing though as I leant who the strong riders were? on the 6th attack 3 of these strong riders came with me? then a couple more? we had a group of about 10 in the end and worked really well together to get a bigger gap.. the main group behind were all looking at each other but no one had come across? we managed to get about 150m and another break formed with Simon H in it? however, by this time our break had got a good rhythm and we had all shouted at each other to work together?

Our break had gone after about 8 laps and at one point I think we had about ½ a lap?. The only problem now was that there were a few riders not doing there turn on the front?so there was only ½ the group driving it forward. By lap 10 we had dropped a couple of riders and now there was 7 of us.. with one rider just sitting at the back saying he had cramp?. I tried attacking again but was chased down by 2 Agisko riders? on lap 11 I saw the 2 Agisko riders talking to each other.. then they made the move about half a lap later? 1 went first and I chased him down with 4 other riders and we managed to get him back? then he sat up and the other Agisko rider went with the guy who eventually won? trying to recover ASAP from the last chase I noticed the other Agisko rider had jumped across too? it was now a 3 man break Vs our group of 4? then another went? I chased him to try and get on the group leaving the two remaining riders behind? a manged to catch the 4th rider but was out of steam from all of my earlier attempts to bridge the finall gap.. we regrouped as 4 and tried hard to work as a team to get them back.. only problem was that we still had the rider who ?said? he had cramp with us and when it got to his trun he slowed down? they were gone so it was 4 of us to make sure that we did not get caught and to fight it out for 4th.. the main peleton were getting closer on the last two laps but we managed to hold them off..

On the last lap we all started to look at each other but we agreed not to mess around until the last corner.. then the fun began.. one side of the track.. then the other? each rider trying hard to stay off the front?. Last corner and I managed to get behind one rider with an eye over my shoulder? 200m to go and the guy with cramp looked went for it saying that cramp seems to have gone now!! I jumed on his wheel and had 3 riders on my wheel? 150m to go and I decided to just go for it? and although I had two riders behind me I managed to outsprint them to the line?

A great fun race despite the rain and a good experience to be riding for almost 1.5 hrs at anerobic? I went through some patches in the race where I felt very strange.. then managed to recover only to feel strange again.. thank god for the energy bar ? shame not to get in the top three? but maybe next time.. still new to these racing tactics but learning more every race..

36 points so far? so fingers crossed for Palace tomorrow

Although I think I will need 50 points to get to 2nd as I started in 4th Cats!???

No, you only need 40 so you are as good as damn it a 2nd cat for the rest of the season, good luck and well done that sounded like a fantastic race. I am jealous now.

Ha Ha you nutter, you're good but not that good. Not even a pro could do that. I'm sure you spent a good chunk of the time above your racing threshold. But there's no way you rode the whole race anaerobic (without oxygen). Well done mate - you're an inspiration. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you on tuesday. Those 2nd cats better watch out!

Tim, what Imagine being dead, hmm, I wonder what that would be like, mind you sometimes when I am racing I do start to imagine whether it would be easier to be dead than to be riding my bike so bliming fast.

Cheers

Just to clarify:

1. Any all out effort under 60secs would essentially be anaerobic. So in RR's this would include sprints, jumps, quickly bridging gaps.

2. All out efforts of 90sec and above are to varying degrees aerobic (with oxygen). The longer the effort the more energy is derived from your aerobic system.

How well you recover from short anaerobic efforts is determined mostly by your RR/TT threshold. Obviously if you're blessed with a large number of fast twitch muscle fibres (sprinter) you can get away with having a low threshold. Obviously this is not the case with you anymore Tim cause you can now get yourself into breakaways.
