Being the same day as the national 25 and also the ECCA 25 on a fast course nearby, I figured that a lot of the fast guys would be otherwise engaged and this would be a good chance to pick up some decent points in the Spoco South East competition. So I rode the Maldon & District 50 on the E21/50 course, which is almost three laps of a circuit around the Essex country lanes. Not too hilly as sporting course go, but lots of twists and turns, and one little bugger of hill each lap which seemed to rob all speed.
Having ridden the Team Cambridge 10 just over twelve hours earlier, it was going to be interesting to see if my legs would have recovered enough. Well they seemed to be going OK, and got me round in 2:08:54 which put me somewhere in the mid teens position-wise which is what I was aiming for.
Done enough Spoco SE events to qualify now, the only thing to decide is whether to do another 50 to try to improve on my poor result in the Crawley Wheelers hilly.
