2006 ACC Road Race

Postby Toks » Mon Jun 05, 2006 2:33 pm

Ok given the grand job from young Mr Fallon last year Ive got to start planning this year's club Road Race. I'm thinking 45minute + 5 laps handicap race at Eastway sometime in August. Let me know your thoughts and feeling guys!

I would like to take part and couldn't last year because the date was not published early enough so all I want is a date so I can not miss it like I did last year.

Eastway sounds good as I have never raced there and never will again as it is closing.....

Hmm, Eastway, Toks stomping ground, I am up for it but think Toks should be given a handicap considering he could probably cycle that circuit with his eyes shut. How about Toks can only use the small ring for the first two laps.

Be good if we could get a few of the regular racers out, Max had a win there last year against the second cats so he is probably the man to mark along with Tim who is having a great season.

Cheers

We could always handicap it, but I think Sean the idea is to find the best. So categorising it messes it up a bit as does handicapping. At Hillingdon because it is so flat it is relatively easy to sit in, Eastway maybe a little harder due to the hill.

Last year we had an A race and B race. We had different coloured numbers. I seem to remember though that half of the B race were still on the tails of the A race as we went over the finish line.

So maybe we have two races in one, so that the regular racers get classed as As and the rest as Bs. Then we all set off at the same time and the highest place A and highest place B wins.

Cheers

well I'm on holiday for the first 3 weeks of August :D so while I would like to take part I'll either not be here or just coming into my top form  after 3 weeks with the family in France doing nothing much, anyway if it is on in late August I'd be willing to give it a go (B race though). Maybe if it's scheduled to clash with some important race day the cream of the crop won't turn up and some imposter can get the crown

No way are you in the B team, you are an A man I am afraid. Think we have to watch cowboys like you.

Could it be the first Saturday in October?

Advantages:

End of race season so not going to clash with the serious racers' calenders of events.

Out of holiday season so fewer "Sorry I'm away with the family" excuses.

Eastway more likely to be available (unless the bulldozers have moved in by then).

Plenty of notice to avoid club members being already booked up that day.

And (most importantly) I'll have just got back from a month of mountainbike guiding in the Rockies and will still have some altitude training type advantage to allow me to keep up for at least 3 laps.

thanks for the comments guys and keep them coming! I've no problems with September as the month of choice. I'm still in correspondence with James the manager at the moment so I'll come back to you with some dates. Obviously this is all dependent on ACC big Chiefs giving it the go ahead. [quote]I reckon there should be some cat type grading here as most bar a select few (you know who you are) stand a cat in hells chance of winning. Why not follow the CP Crits model?
I totally agree with you Sean. Currently I'm thinking three different categories (A) regular racing 2&3cats + super strong 4ths and TT guys (B) Cyclosportiv men/ occassional 4th cats/regular 19-21mph members (C) Comfortable in 17mph group but less competitive bunch. They'll be first, second and third prizes in all groups; plus obviously a prize for the overall race winner. Last year's winner was Marek of course. I'll keep ya posted :)

Yohan, you must be joking mate, you are an A rider, cor dear another cowboy, next thing is Toks and Tim will be demanding B status due to a bad hair day, actually. I think I should be a B rider this year as ummm, I had a bit of an upset stomach in January which put back my winter miles and therefore I have not got the normal base milage in my legs to be able to compete at A status. B for me please.

Cheers

How can Yohan and Kieran be so coy - utter nonsense!!!??

Anyway, I think the handicap system should be age banded!!! - 20-42 and 42+ for obvious reasons Toks.

I liked Hillingdon but I guess that Eastaway would more likely to break up into groups with a more natural separation between the hard and softcore riders if we all strated together, which I favour - The brak up didn't really happen until the end of the race last year, probably because of the very strong headwind on the finishing straight and incline that seemed to force a real slowdown on the front and the opportunity for rest and recovery for those of us just about hanging on.

Looking forward to this.

I think we would need a selection committee to determine ability.

I reckon I am an occasional sportive rider / broken occasional 4th cat rider

..wow...come back to a barrage of abuse!

I only said B group cos i sit in the 'regular 19-21 group' ..I didnt suggest putting stabilisers and big basket on my bike and racing the local boy scouts! ..I'll take it as a compliment....(an I'm not being coy again Alan)...anyhow Alan, ur a racing veteran this year...been on the track far more than me :D
..yea I'm now really forward to being 'beat up' at the front with the resident ACC punishers!

I'll be up for this as well. According to Toks classification, I would be a B rider.
