NOT!...Come on it comes around every four years, you know you wanna to talk about it!. It can't just be me, Maria, Yohan and Huw that like a bit of footy. Ok I haven't seen a lot of games but here's my verdict so far. England Well as we know that can only play good for 45mins so the jury is still out; Italy, a very proffessional job done on Ghana two nights ago - Ghana put up a good showing for a large portion of the first half but didn't you just know the Italians we're biding their time before taking all three points;

Australia, I didn't really see them beating the Japanese but fair play they deserved it. Trinidad and Tobago, uplifting stuff againgst the the Blonde's (Sweden). France, oh dear what were they doing against the Swiss? Brazil, they nearly always build up slowly- would you really bet against them not making the final.

P.S. Just for my mate Ian; L.L may well have won the Dauphine Libere but does he really have a chance of making the podium in this year's TDF? I think not. Finally it was good to see Mayo win a stage though!

Right Toks here goes - I think Argentina look the best so far, solid defence and clinical attack. Brazil didn't look like they bothered to get out of 2nd gear. Italy always start slowly but seem to end up in the semi final most of the time. France look poor, could stuggle to qualify. England - will probably depend on Rooney's fitness and Sven's dodgy defensive tactics, fingers crossed though. Spain are bound to go out sooner than they should do.

Caveat: I support West Ham and the above views are therefore of dubious origin.

I think LL will not podium in the TDF- the tour seems to be tailor made for big jan with 2 long TTs. I have managed so far without seeing any football, i am not really a fan of the game anymore ( well not for the last 27 years).. what really gets my back up is the way the media hype up everything- also the money they earn is obscene- every one of them is a "hero".
Anyway i wish them well and i will even give them a cheer, but as for watching it no thanks.
When you get to my age funny things happen as soon as my bum hits a chair my body wants feeding or its time for a nap! so the whole TV thing sends me to sleep.
Please do not start me on the royal family, politics,women drivers, big brother, ANY celebrity (whatever that means) ......

Ian I agree; although still being in the first flourishes of youth.....NOT..... sitting down doesnt quite cause funny things to happen.....yet.....!
But anyway running about on a bit of grass kicking a ball, a load of overpaid big girls blouses. Heat? they should have ridden up Box hill last Saturday.

Well, I think that is Poland out for another year, if only they had substituted that ding bat who got sent off, he looked like he was going to lose it earlier in the game.

Ah well, but I have to say it is galling going out against the Germans. Will have to go and dust off my England shirt now, or maybe I have a green and yellow something lying around somewhere.

Overpaid heroes eh...? Try telling that to my beloved Tranmere - we might be sh*te - but at least we pays bad too!! We had Stan Boardman on the pitch singing his world cup song for half time "entertainment" at the last game of the season - kwality!! I was ever so slightly drunk and I recall berating him somewhat. Definitely no prawn sarnies with The Wirral's finest.

Anyway, regards the World Cup and in terms of hedging me bets - Viva Espana/Brasil, Forza Italia, advance Australia fair, come on Engerland and go home Yankee (in the words of the late, great Joe Strummer) I'm Sooooo Bored With The U, S, A, nothing personal like.

I have to say its a close call between Ivory Coast and Equador, those Africans are built like brick walls, and are also blessed with good skill.

Worst match so far.....Angola v portugal,
best match USA v Czech Rep....jus for seein Arsenal new boy destroy tha yanks with 2 wonder stikes!

I thought Germany played well last night against a strong Polish defence. Spain looked good but that sending off and penalty was highly dubious. Brazil could go up at least 3 gears, Italy did well against a strong Ghana team, France-Switzerland was the worst game I've seen for some years.

I'm sure the England 'heroes' will win tonight to rachet up the hype to another level (by the way, why do they play 'God Save the Queen' when that's the British national anthem?).

These days I prefer my sporting heroes to be those who have to train harder than any footballer to turn out performances day in day out without complaining of heat (weren't England training in Portugal a month ago?) and having to exert themselves twice a week whilst not earning in a year what some footballers earn in a week.

Something needs to happen to get Mr Ericksson to put his passion on the football pitch rather than in the bedroom - a lose or a draw might just do the trick

My favourite match was Ghana v Italy - I saw the last part of Argentina v Ivory Coast and that looked like it had been a good game too - up the Africans !
