"African teams seem to be almost there, but fail in the moment that counts the most".

Sean, this obviously doesn't apply to Sven, which kind of answers your first question!

Personally i think this festival of football is fantastic!

So much quality football on display, however has anyone thought to question the seemingly tireless spanish!? Perhaps they all go to the doctors in madrid, whats his name, Fuentes!?

Controversial.

Anyway, forget the money, the world cup is about peace. If we weren't playing football, we'd probably be at war with one another! After a not entirely convincing performance this evening, I believe England have what it takes to beat the best. Our world-class defence (John Terry) will cope with every strikeforce ive seen so far, forget Brazils 2nd Gear, just wait til we find ours!

Bring on the Germans next round! After all, id rather we played them than ecuador

Here here, well said Adam... I haven't seen a premiership game in two years Super so its got to be you and me mate...Spain looked good againgst the Ukraine; they often flatter to deceive - good to see our (arsenal's) beloved Fabrigas getting on in the last twenty mins................

Yeah We Did It! I'm still not sure about Crouchy. What happened with that volley :? Lenon was impressive and Rooney looked lively but needs more fitness. Can Lampard and Gerrard both play together? I'm not so sure, M.Owen still looks out of sorts - we can't afford two strikers that are not on form...Rumour has it that Arsenal attackers can't header the ball - Well done Freddy!!!

Well done Freddy - 3 goals in 10 months - he must worth is x-squillion quid !

I think there must be something in backing the Spanish - they're on a roll sportwise, what with Rafael Nadal, Fernando Alonso, Ivan Pedroso, a few blokes who ride bikes.......football would nicely complete the suit.

Mind you, my money's on the Argentinians.

I don't want to give the score away but has anyone just watched the Argentina match? How good was that!

That's it - all bets are off.

Yesterday I was sitting in front of a telly in Larnaca airport and saw Argentina put about 20 one-touch passes together at speed before setting up Cambiasso for the goal of the century.

After that (and five other acts of timeless beauty in the same match) I hope I never, EVER have to watch the dross England serve up as 'football' ever again. Ever!

So if anyone fancies switching the wednesday evening ride to tuesday night - Tripple Delight! The roads should be quiet, you get to miss the torture of another England 'performance' and get to see a proper match, Argentina v Holland on Wednesday.

Great idea. May well be up for that if I've recovered from tomorrow's ride in the Cotswolds.

On a positive note for England if we can win our group, and just a guess Argentina win theirs, we won't meet them until the final. :D

Yes indeed Huw, 24 passes! Does it beat the goal Carlos Alberto scored for Brazil in 1970 - I don't know but it was fantastic stuff neverhteless.

It was nice to see Ghana beat the Czech republic today.
Lets have a competition and see how many times African footballers are discribed as BIG and STRONG. Unlike 10-15 years ago its not that bad anymore - just twice in the commentary on ITV. Honestly if you didn't have images you'd think some of these chaps were 17 stone and 8 feet tall.

They did, however, commit some rash fouls resulting in a few yellow cards; so with suspensions this may affect their chances of getting a good result against the USA

I think it was a better goal because there were more players involved and they had to get through a very tight Serbian midfield and defence

After being robbed of victory against the cheating Italians I reckon the USA will be well up for the game with Ghana.

In the 80's and 90s TV commentators always used to say "Big and Strong, good technical ability but very naive at the back" when talking about the African nations, so I guess things have improved a little bit.

From what we've seen so far the best semi final line up would include Ghana, Holland, Argentina and Spain but you just watch the Germans go and spoil the party again!

I don't think you're being controversial Sean - you're right they missed a truckload of chances! It'll be interesting to see how much further they can go... Poor old Ronaldo, what is going on with that bloke? Apparently he had a few more touches of the ball against the Aussies but he still looks Hackney Marshes quality rather than World Cup quality at the moment! :?
