Storm the palace

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Storm the palace

Come on Toks - spill the beans - I hear you and my mate Andy were in a break and swearing at juniors for not doing any work!!!

Then someone kicked Brian Taylor onto the floor! What's the story? Out with it!

Can anyone explain about the £500 prize? I raced at Palace on Tuesday but strategically had positioned myself at the back of the bunch so didn't really hear anything said. It would certainly explain the intial speed of the race, for the first 6-7 laps I timed it as averaging about 24.5mph, causing me to lose touch with the main bunch, I kept with 4 (then 3, then 2) other riders for the remainder of the race until the bunch came past again and managed to stay with them for the last ten laps, which averaged a more manageable pace of 22.5 mph. There were two crashs, as Huw says, one was Brian Taylor, who remained on the ground and as I was leaving an ambulance was making its way into the park following another VCL rider. Another crash occurred at the top of the hill as the e/1/2 bunch came past the main j/3/4 bunch shouting to keep out of the way two dulwich riders came down thanks to the over hanging branches, luckily the speed of the pack was not too high, just having finished the hill and everyone else managed to avoid them. They seemed ok at the end of the race. Anyway a good night's entertainment. Must train more! Must train more!

Tim seemed fine in the E/1/2 race, now all I need is for about 30 other riders to move up to 2nd cat and I might get some points at palace!

Yeah once Andy and I bridged across the group slowed up a little. Then one of the Juniors sprinted for the prime and won it which was fine; but foolishly he then tried to drop us. This destabilized the group cause we all had to chase him. So eventually the Dragon Ride King - Rob Jefferoy joined us with some others and and the game was up...On the last lap I niavely tried the same tactic as two weeks ago - leading out and blasting up the climb. Unfortunately a massive gearing of 53/14 and my skinny legs don't go together at the end of races where I've been overly active so I died at the top. Andy grabbed 4th spot but was disqualified. The moral of the story is don't swear at exitable springy juniors within the earshot of race officials

Sorry Kieran I was probably partly responsible for you being dropped. The Dulwich riders (18 & 24) put the Hammer down from the gun. Immediately you go into 'killl or be killed' mode so those first few laps were very fast indeed. Next week stay as close as you can to Max Macalla, black guy from VCL. He's economy in motion - You'll rarely see him near the front or in break aways but his always in the top six at the end.
