ACC / Norwwod Paragon Inter-club 10 mile TT on 11th July

ACC / Norwwod Paragon Inter-club 10 mile TT on 11th July

Postby Tim Coales » Wed Jun 28, 2006 5:17 pm

ACC Time Trial Riders needed to help beat Norwood Paragon (again) on the GS/335 Bletchingley Course on Tuesday 11th July.

This is a ?sporting course? of 10.7 miles which is basically the loop from Bletchingley down to Outwood windmill and back up the hill to Bletchingley. Last year our fastest 6 riders beat the Paragon?s fastest 6. They were full of excuses, of course. By rights, we should be hosting the event on the usual North Holmewood course (G10/42) but they don?t like riding the A24. Last night none of them turned up for their inter-club with the Epsom which took place after our evening 10! We can field up to 20 riders, the more of you who ride, the better our chances, so ?come on you agreeables?? Event starts at 7.30pm and it?s nearer than Dorking.
We could also do with some helpers marshalling, cheering on the hills etc. so if you can?t ride you can still show the Paragon what a great club the Addiscombe is.
Please email tim.coales@btinternet.com ASAP.

Jim, I don't think 2nd claim members count towards the inter-club team, but I won't tell NP if you don't. Shhhh.

Hi Tim, count me in, come on ACC you know you want to!!
As for hills Sean save your self for the last 5 miles as you get hit wth 2 lumps and then the finish is a sprint up hill!!
College Road circuit would be ideal training for this...

I did 21 mile version of this i think earlier in the year - basically 2 loops. Good circuit.
Tim put me down for this - will send email to ACC 4 UP superteam to see if they can lend a pair of legs to this endevour.

Now I know your good AJ but you can't be in two places at once.

Might head down for this depending how I feel. Marmotte on saturday still a bit tired.

Should be a good competition though.

Well, it looks like Norwood Paragon were still smarting from from getting beaten on their chosen course last year, as they pulled out all the stops this year and put their A team up on the line last night. Amongst their riders were at least two 1st cat & two 2nd cat roadies, who would obviously be able to put in a good performance on this testing 10.7 mile circuit.

With some of our fastest riders away on other duties, I guess we had the B team on duty, but still held our heads high and put in a decent performance. The inter club is decided on the aggregate time of the top 6 riders from each club. I can't remember the exact totals, but I believe there was about four minutes between the totals with Norwood Paragon taking the honours this year.

It was a pretty close fight for the podium places. I took first place with 27:20, a NP rider 6 seconds back, and Jim Burdett third another 3 seconds down.

Just wanted to say I thoroughly enjoyed the event, which was my first ever competitive road event (my only other events having been 3 individual TTs at Holmwood).

We had perfect conditions and the course was superb, the quiet lanes making a nice change from the A24. It was indeed a tough ride with a couple of gutbusting little climbs, but as a mountain biker from New Zealand I didn't mind those so much!

By the sound of things we were up against some pretty classy competition and I think we did well considering, plus it was great to see Addiscombe riders take 1st and 3rd.
