I'm out tonight, but not the hills.
Plan is Straight on to, and down Titsey - left and 1st right at Limpsfield lights - then left to drop in to Westerham before returning via Botley Hill. About 25miles if anyone fancies a flatter, rolling route.

I'll start at Selson lights at 6:40 with the hill group if anyone fancies a change. If not see you Saturday.

5 set out, but only 4 made it back. I think Peter was suffering with a bad foot and turned back early (hope the brake cable works its way out soon).:shock:

The other 3 joined me for an alternative route. No real steep climbs but a couple of drags and returned up my favourite Botley 3 step climb, where Mr. Lombari stormed away with his new tantric climbing technique. Slight embarassment at the top where I failed to twist my foot far enough to de-cleat and promptly keeled over sideways. :oops:

I hope you didn't miss your hills too much, I was grateful for the company.

P.S. New top speed today descending Titsey hitting 54mph. That's that what hills are for. :twisted:

Thanks to the Andrews, Phil and Peter for last night's jolly pleasant jaunt in the country. A perfect evening for suffering up hills!

It was a pleasant alternative to the big hills. May be we should vary this ride each week. So looking forward to next week with some alternate routes - up Beddlestead Lane would be a better route than going along the 'orrible Limpsfield Road/Croydon Road. How we vary it further out is up for any suggestions. You have started something now Andrew, so you best be out next week to lead the way :wink:

Good call, can cut through from the left turn off after the golf course to the top of Beddlestead.

Plenty of options out that way.
- Reverse Wednesday's route for a tougher course with the climb up Titsey.
- Along Pilgrims Way and back through Westerham
- Left at the top of Beddlestead and 1st left to go through Downe village, (there's a main road bit for about 3 miles, but I think there is a quieter road) and you drop down narrow roads back to Coney Hall.
There are a lot more but these are about 20-25 mile loops from Selsdon which is probably about right timewise for evenings.
Can always reverse and/or mix and match the routes as they tend to cross at some point.

Wow, I personally love the blast back to Sanderstead from the top of Titsey... lovely downhill, can really tear back home. Probably more than Beddlestead, though in all fairness I've only ridden it from from Warlingham, not the other way round.

You already know it Yohan. On "Huw's Hills" route Titsey is the descent after Chalkpit, the one where you have to brake hard to turn hard left up White Hill.

As you know the road is not the smoothest so you need to grip the drops. The road drops away a bit after the White Hill turn and then finishes with a right left S bend, which is after the road surface smoothes out. The bends are of the sweeping variety so if you use all of your lane and you can swing round quite easily. (cars can not keep up with you so don't need to worry about traffic).

You could probably go quicker as I dropped in rather than peddled out at the start of the descent.

The forecast I heard was not just for rain but localised flooding. I don't fancy some of those descents, or ascents for that matter, on water-soaked, slippery roads so left the bike safely snuggled up this morning.
