Well we had 3 agreeables at Hillingdon tonight Ajay, Matt Ives and myself, Ajay and I thought we were a twosome but bumped into Matt on the start line. Matt and I were first timers here and I believe Matt popped his racing cherry tonight.
All the talk on the ride up from Victoria we3 were talking about strategies and how we would work as a team, Ajay offered to be my lead out man on the sprint, we would get organised and take everyone by storm.
The pace was pretty mild all through just in the peloton spinning away with none of the dark hidden surprises that Palace can offer.
The first 10 laps Ajay and I were sticking up in the front third of the group away from any harm. A few breakaways went off the front but they were soon reeled in alap or so later, Ajay and I broke loose and attacked the field we got a few bike lengths a couple of others joined in and we worked together quite well but were wound in.
Feeling the pace was far too comfortable I attacked up the start drag was joined by Matt and Ajay, after a while we got reeled in, but felt the effort was well worth it for interests sake, and showing the group that Addiscombe were in da house!!
The race seemed to go on for ages with lots more active riding at the front by us lot.
Two laps to go Matt nestled up front into the top 3, I got a few places behind him, the pace really hotted up and the last lap seemed twice as fast as the rest.
Rounding the corner before the last drag the sprinters went very early I realised I was a little too far back, with my lead out man Ajay nowhere in sight I was on my own!
Sprinting up the hill I felt really good came past Matt but just left it too late to compete with the bunch sprint. I will remember to be in the first 5 next time at the start of the drag.
At the finish we discovered a Tele Tubbie kid had broke away on lap 2 whilst the pace was slow and lapped everyone and stole the victory,
Great race, great cooling ride back through South London.
Come on and give racing ago, the pace at Hillingdon is not too hot and most of the faster 17s at the CR would easily cope.
Cheers George
