Could we keep the thread going another 4 years please?

I think 'terrorist' is the favourite, or maybe 'old, bald git'! Either way the reaction spoilt a great performance by Zizou, but I don't think it affected the outcome. France played better than us be we showed real steel at the back.

Now, where did I put that gold star............

Dear oh Dear, I'm sure the thread will slowly diminish Sylv. I don't think it requires an official shut down. But then again I quite like seeing a thread named after Ian so perhaps it deserves to be reactivated every time it disappears off the radar. :D

Anyway back to the football. Congratulations to the Italy, unlike England they've finally got rid of their penalty taking hoodoo - in a game that really matters. Did they deserve to win it? I don't think so. I actually wanted France to win, they definitely should've had a second penalty but then again perhaps the first one wasn't the most convincing.

..It must have been something pretty abhorrent that Materazzi said to get Zidane to react like that. The stakes were so high I wonder why ZZ found Materazzi's comments impossible to ignore. No excuses though - Zidane definitely had to go. I'm kinda sad for France, and sad for Zidane - prossibly the best footballer on the world stage for the last 6-8 years. Ok Sylv thats the last word on the W.C. from me! :)

Must have been a very personal comment to ilicit a response like that.

Probably involved ZZs mother, wife, kids, farmyard animals or possibly all of those things.

A shame the game wasn't so good but there's so much to lose in the final that it's understandable I guess.

France were marginally better last night but over the course of the tournament I reckon Italy deserved it - and 5 out of five from the spot is an awesome display of nerve from a team notoriously bad at penalty shootouts.

Are you sober yet Dave? I'm off to Dolomites end of the week so I hope the party's still going

I was just kidding asking for it to be closed - pretending to be bothered - altough I must say the match last night was pretty exciting right to the last penalty and I was really waiting for France to score again before the end of extended time. Regarding zizou, I was thinking also of something to do with his mother, but have read the terrorist one in the times. I know they were meant whatever the outcome of the match to parade on the Champs Elysees (cancelled) and lunch with Chirac (not sure what happens there), but apparently Chirac has praised zz since.

Amazingly not a drop of alcohol has past my lips, that may need to be rectified tonight, but the celebrations in Charlotte Street, Soho and Trafalgar Square ensured I've only had two hours sleep.

I think any team who have only conceded one own goal and one penalty in the World Cup finals deserve to be champions, though I felt France were better last night, which led me to a feeling of slight anti-climax. If only the Germany match had been the final.

Anyway, unless seriously provoked (please don't mention my mother) this will be the last posting from me on this thread.

See you in 4 years time. Ciao tutti!

Must have been a reference to ZZ's mother. It's only papers such as The Times that would invite us to associate any North African with terrorism.
