Beastway Addiscombe promotion - volunteers needed 12th July

A Place to idle the day away talking about anything you fancy. Expect to find cycling and non cycling topics inside

Postby huw williams » Thu Jul 13, 2006 1:23 pm

I know I'm going to regret this but I've just cadged a bike of theose fine chaps at MBR so if anyone can find a place for me in the team race I'm available

After a break of over two years I never actually anticipated a return to the dirt so I might be crap, but the bike arrives next wednedsday so I'll spend the next coule of weeks refamiliarising myself with off-road.

So if anyone has any local evening/weekend trail rides they're doing, let me know wouldya?

Huw, I'd taken the liberty of pencilling you in for my vets team   , I hope that's OK.

I'm pretty sure that I'll be able to be talked into doing a gentle evening ride sometime the week after next (away next week) how does 7pm at ECBR on Thursday 27th sound?

Sounds good - I'll try and get some rides in before then so I know what I'm doing

If there's still a space in a team, I might be available - just have to figure out how to get from Gatwick to East London on a Wednesday night...

I'm only in my fourth decade so I'm afraid I don't qualify for a vets team, but if there's a masters team that can accommodate me I'd love to give it a whirl.

Excellent.

There's absolutely no information regarding bicycle carriage on First Capital Connect's website but I've managed to talk to a live person at FCC who confirmed that it is still ok to carry bikes on trains travelling towards central London during rush hour.

I might join you, if I may. I live very close to ECBR and am always up for a bit of local MTBing. Although, despite having lived in the area for more than 3 years I still don't know my way around the Croydon trails!

Speaking of which, are the Sunday MTB rides still supposed to be taking place? I've turned up at 10am a couple of times in recent weeks and there's been no one else there.

Okeydoke... if there are at least a couple of others interested I'll be at ECBR at 10am this Sunday. Looking to return by around 1pm (DIY duties await). Looks like being a scorcher - 28 degrees according to Metcheck...

I'm also up for midweek rides - I can be at the station at around 7 (6.30, given a day's notice) on any evening.

I've been doing the Saturday road ride alot recently and not done much local mtb rides (we did go to the Wall of Death with Joel a few weeks back and were reminded that there are very good trails just out of Croydon).

Huw, Wal, Marco, Grahame et al - this Sunday could be a good date to get out and end up at the Lloyd Park Mela for some curry BBQ'd corn and live music. Marco if you could make it it would be brilliant as you know the trails like the back of your hand!

Hey chaps, before joining ACC and selling my soul as a roadie, I did about 15 years of MTB, mainly leisure, but some fun level racing eight years ago. I know most of the routes out from Selsdon, Sanderstead over to the North Downs around Woldingham and up to Reigate Hill. So I wouldn't mind joining you for either a Sunday or mid-week ride if I can, and I could show you some of the routes.

I don't think I am in your league for racing, but if you are desparate, I could also offer my services here too.
