Two Agreeables in action this morning in the Southend Wheelers 50 mile TT on a sporting 3-lap course around the lanes of south east Essex.
My aim was to improve my position in the Spoco South-East competition by getting a higher placing than the 39th I got in the Crawley Wheelers 41 on Good Friday. That wasn't going to be too hard today, as there were only 38 in the field.
A nice warm dry day with an easterley wind meant some parts of the course were grinds into the wind but others were 30mph+ flyers.
Last time out on this course in early June I did 2:08:54, so I was aiming to improve on that and hoping to get inside 2:05. First and second time round I was just about on target with a 24mph average, but died a bit on the final lap and finished in 2:06:33 which I think got me 11th place and a hat-full of Spoco points, so reasonably pleased with that.
When the start sheet arrived I was surprised to see the name Robert Royle-Evatt on the list as he rarely rides Spoco events. At the HQ I discovered he hadn't realised it was a Spoco, and was aiming for a PB which would have meant going sub 2 hour. Well, Rob finished a few seconds slower than me in 2:06:50, maintaining our record of very close finishes in the 50's we've ridden this year.
