Just heard on Radio 4 that today was the hottest July day since records began at Charlwood in Surrey ? 36.5C. Previous hottest July day was 36C recorded in Epsom in 1911. Highest ever temperature recorded in England was 38C in 2003.

Amy and I went out for two and a half hours at lunchtime - round epsom downs, boxhill etc. It was pretty hot between 1 and 3pm.
Heat drives people mad - I had a blowout (over-pumped the tyre, hot air expanded -- doh!) and this guy pulled over in his 4 x 4 and said - "do you need help? Have you got enough water?"
A motirist being kind to cyclists? You don't get 4 x 4s pulling over in February and saying "are you ok? Do you need hot soup?" when you could really do with it.

The driver was probably just hoping you'd say yes to justify the safari on-board water kit he'd fitted 
. Oh the soup assistance in Feb sounds good.
Just got back from a spin with Gavin and it's still bloody warm. Okay while your moving, but stop at a junction and a waterfall pours down your face. I think we're due this nice spell after the never ending winter, long may it continue.

Car at the doctors so had to ride to and from work yesterday. Coulsdon/Crawley.
Chilly at 4.30 am, but hot coming home. Fortunately a southerly breeze started early evening, so got home in exactly 1 hour. Well pleased. Over 17 mph. Mouthful of water every few minutes though as the throat seemed to dry out rapidly.

Actually, I saw you yesterday, Sean, as you sailed effortlessly past the Imperial War Museum. I was waiting at the lights and hoped to catch you up but it wasn't to be.
Got home drenched and with a face like a beetroot. Had a cold shower before going out again to join Ajay & co for the training ride. But Iwas already hot and bothered again before I'd even got dry and into a clean kit.
Mind you, got the Tube into work this morning - that's an eye-opener, I can tell you. Never again, if I can help it.

The air conditioning in my office chose the hottest day of the year to stop working, and it's still on the blink today. I'm looking forward to the ride home to cool down a bit. Tommorow is casual Friday, so it'll be shorts and hawaiian shirt, plus sandals with the obligatory socks.

Saw a sixty-something fellow sporting a great look today on the Tube. Grubby wife-beater (with generously-sized armholes affording an unobstructed view of armpits), 8th-army shorts (not washed since El Alamein), and - for me, the clincher - black socks and black loafers. I really think standards are falling among today's oldsters.

I hope those socks are going to be long and pulled up.
