Blood spinning, the controversial technique used by Chelsea last season, has been officially endorsed by UK Sport.
The government-funded agency, who administer drug testing on behalf of the Football Association, had advised players not to undergo the treatment amid fears it may breach anti-doping rules.
Among the Chelsea players to have received the treatment were the Dutch winger Arjen Robben and German centre-back Robert Huth.
But a meeting last week with Chelsea's club doctor Bryan English has allayed UK Sport's fears and an official statement is due to be released next week confirming the technique is not illegal.
The process involves taking a sample of the player's blood, removing the platelets cells that assist the healing process and then injecting them back into the injured area. It is claimed to speed up recovery.
It was originally developed for use in major trauma injuries, such as in car accidents, but is increasingly being applied to sport.
English joined Chelsea from UK Athletics, where he had been credited with helping Kelly Holmes overcome injury to win the 800 and 1500 metres gold medals at the Olympics last year.
It was while working for UK Athletics that he first came across blood spinning when he learnt about it during a conference organised by the American College of Sports Medicine.

I think the level for failing a test is much higher than the '6-beer increase' hence the suggestion that it could 'contribute' to a failed test rather than cause it.

The excuse will have to be a bit more imaginative then that. One of the sprinters suggested that his failed test was caused by 6 beers and having sex 4 times the previous night

If found true I can't wait for the laughable 'Hamilton-type' response, "It wasn't me guv, I was not nowhere near when it 'appened".

If you're a cheat and you get away with it I can kind of understand not saying anything, but if you're caught, admit it and let the rest of the world get on with decideing who REALLY deserved the win.

I think testing Landis after that 'epic' ride was as likely as Maradonna being tested immediately after he roared and snarled at the TV camera after scoring.

I was immediately suspicious. The day before Landis had a bad day. The next day he storms off and you have to accept that he had a blistering day, whereas the rest had a bad day, all of them at once. I know there are stories of the bunch not waking up and being abnle to catch him, T-Mobile not reacting etc, but Landis was indeed on another planet, much as Diego was.

As for Oscar's statement about him 'feeling for the guy', I go bak to 99 when an increasingly irate Ja Ja responded to journalists asking 'is doping prevailent in the peleton.? Ja Ja said' do you thing we climb 5 mountains for 7 hours on bread and museli'?

Mr. Pererio's reaction to all of this disturbs me. It's not exactly the response of someone who feels cheated out of the biggest win of his life. So how far down the results list do we go before we can find someone we believe in.
