Well heres my 10p's worth.
Off to a flying stop as the marshall on the first junction could not make his mind up if it was safe so we were all over the road. The first 3 mins are absolute agony- even with a good warm up ( we could not find the start - but got there with 2 mins to go ) why oh why am i doing this? Anyway up thru the village and onto what must be the only flat bit on the course, HR down about 20 beats and i am on the front, s'easy this cycling lark you know . The course winds around a bit then there is a small hill- a bit like the one by the garage on the club run, frantic elbow waggling sees Chris Scarlett powering thru dragging everyone along, quite a few drags come along but we did keep up a good pace( well it was for me) kinnel its a tad windy round this bit of the course in the open, who put that hill there? It must be the only ride i have done that was uphill all the way.
Gav started to suffer so he told us to go on, (sh!t that was supposed to be my line as i went past the HQ).
Lap 2 was better strange as it seems, maybe it was because i had to miss a few turns, Shadow and Chris were doing monster turns on the front while the lummox (me) sat in and called the odds.
I found by draughting the others it really helped me on the hills ( instead of leading) and we kept up a good 18/19mph, its funny how your legs react -at times they were screaming, but not on the hills- weird!
I dont think Chris was ever really stressed and he took longer and longer turns, I moaned, Shadow groaned and i am sure the baskets moved the finish line!
Riding with me nan? @rse mate
Some stats from me magic watch
Avg 21 mph
HR 80/90% 34 mins
HR 90/100% 1hr 6
800m climbing
Well done to Gav as he carried on doing the 2nd lap all on his tod and boy was he wasted when he got in, it never occurred to us at the time that he was coming round in case of a puncture/ or an accident.
Which is more than can be said for a certain DS who was hiding behind a hedge as we came round
What happened to team GB are they still on the course?
